Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzA misbegotten amateurish but somewhat funny low-budget b/w horror tale of a lonely doll-maker given to shrinking human beings into dolls.
User ReviewJohn PThis b+w movie was brilliant. A man works in a doll factory. People that work near him or for him are going missing. He makes them into dolls. Such a great fun movie. NETFIX rocks!!!
User ReviewKevin SFun, low budget fare that should be required viewing for all 50's science fiction fans. On a more critical note: Technically they aren't puppets at all, but I suspect that "Attack of the Doll People" didn't sound quite as scary or threatening.
User ReviewPhil HMore goofy low budget special effects and fun from writer/director Bert I. Gordon, the man who brought us "War of the Colossal Beast," "Empire of the Ants" and many other goofy cult classics. A mad scientist creates a machine that shrinks people down to puppet size. He has a fine collection of puppet people who he holds captive in his lab and who he gets out to play with throughout the film, eventually wanting to put on a puppet show with them. The puppet people all the while are trying to figure out how to escape. It's all very silly, but it's a pretty good time.
User ReviewAj VThe title is misleading, unlike other fifties movies of this kind, and should be called attack of the puppet master instead. The guy turns these people into puppets, and they have to try to get back to normal. It's a pretty simple story, and it's kind of cute, but not all that good in the end. It's just okay.
User ReviewKerri LMovie plays out mostly like a long Twilight Zone episode which is by no means, a bad thing. Story of a kind-looking old man shrinking people into living dolls is supported by fantastic visual effects that should have ushered in a new age in the special effects industry that, unfortunately, wasnâ??t seen until after the release of Star Wars. Fun, kinda creepy film that will not disappoint.
User ReviewErik MAnother Bert I. Gordon low budget sci-fi with a very anti-climatic ending. Still fun to watch. The title is a bit misleading. This film was also known as: I Was a Teenage Doll - USA (working title) Six Inches Tall - UK
User ReviewTrent MFor a movie by Mr. B.I.G., it's not all that bad. The actors, especially Hoyt, work very well and give life to the characters. Instead of relying on back projections for effects, much of the film features giant sets (some of the best I've seen since The Devil-Doll) The editing between shots of Mr. Franz and his "puppets" is well done and helps the illusion that they are conversing to one another. If you think complementing such a simple editing technique is faint praise, then you've never seen an AIP film. For those who have, and may be fans, this will be a treat.
User ReviewChris .Better than I expected. A dollmaker shrinks people down so he can make dolls from them. What I don't get is why he keeps the people around and doesn't just kill them after. Apparently, he's lonely or something but still, you keep doing this and shrink more and more people, they'll eventually attack you...or try and escape...whatever.
