Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa (Antonio Banderas) finds himself without adequate funding to finance his war against the military-run government. He also finds himself at odds with the Americans because of the Hearst media empire's press campaign against him. To counter both of these, he sends emissaries to movie producers to convince them to pay to film his progress and the actual battles. Producer D.W. Griffith (Colm Feore) becomes interested and sends Frank Thayer (Eion Bailey) with a film crew to develop film reels. Thayer becomes horrified and fascinated by the bandit. He finds an enigmatic individual that is both ghoulishly brutal and charmingly captivating. The resulting film became the first feature length movie, introducing scores of Americans to the true horrors of war that they had never personally seen. Thayer sold the studios on making the film despite their concerns that no one would sit through a movie longer than 1 hour by convincing them that they could raise the price of movies to ten cents, doubling the going price at that time.

New York Magazine/VultureJohn Leonard... actually stars Antonio Banderas as Pancho Villa, and a terrific job he does of it...
User ReviewCharles HMostly revolves about the nature of the media and the politics it communicates, but also about the compromises that are made between idealism and power.
User ReviewDarin ZMy favortie movie of all time. A movie about Mexicos struggle and Americas interference in Revolution to change Mexicos future. Banderas was PANCHO VILLA in my opinon.
User ReviewIvan VSince the history behind the Mexican Revolution is of high interest for me, I truly enjoyed this movie. Antonio Banderas does a great job at acting as Pancho Villa.
User ReviewJosiah SWOW! Antonio Banderas and Eion Bailey were an awesome duo in this film. The story was brilliant and the footage was amazing, especially trying to bring back old-world Mexico. Must see!
User ReviewDavid MAs a portrait of Villa (though a snapshot) this was highly accurate in capturing his character and persona as well as the general style of fighting and Villista mystique. Having just finished reading _Villa and Zapata_ I rather enjoyed this movie.
User ReviewWayne DMy expectations were very low when I sat down to watch this psuedo-biopic. But, by the time it was over...I had added a new title to my ever-growing, gigantic list of favorite films. I believe this is easily Banderas' greatest performance.
User ReviewEmm LGreat acting and pretty balanced portrayal that doesn't go too far over the top one way or the other.
User ReviewLuis MActually a pretty good production for a TV movie. Banderas is without a question a geat actor. The deal between Villa and Mutual Fund Co. with D.W.Griffith was indeed an historical fact. ¡Viva mi general Villa cabrones!
User ReviewDaniel GA good film in many regards. I have a problem relating to the characters but I appreciate the recreation of many true elements and the performance of Banderas is one of his finest
