New York Daily NewsJoe Neumaier[An] assured new feature from director Matthew Bonifacio.
Boxoffice MagazineJohn P. McCarthyThe title suggests shotgun cross-culturalism and, indeed, the movie's different modes and moods don't cohere naturally.
New York TimesLaura KernRealistic performances and genuine emotions make Matthew Bonifacio's quiet charmer Amexicano much more than just another preachy treatise on illegal immigration.
User ReviewWayne GThis movie is truly amazing in the portrayal of the Mexican-American immigrant. I was not only entertained, but left a more informed person about the true struggles that immigrants have on all levels. This film is well-written and such a beautiful story about humanity. I am in such awe over the actors performances which were incredible. I hope that this film gains big success and awareness. I hope that is transends a clear message to our leaders in America about revamping our immigration laws. I will definately spread the word about this movie to everyone I meet! Bravo!!!!
User ReviewJ CThis is a good movie about a blue collar New Yorker who gets adopted into a community of illegal aliens. It reminds me of the recent movies Chop Shop and Sugar although it is more plot driven then those two.
User ReviewHeather MI consider Amexicano a good bromance dramedy. Although the start of the friendship between Bruno and Ignacio felt rushed too me, the story really drew me in. I thought this movie would have a political message with all the recent talk about illegal immigration, but I was glad that it didn't become preachy either way. Although most of the minor characters were stereotypical and the actors portraying them seemed buffoonish, they weren't on screen that much. The main characters were portrayed wonderfully by Carmine Famiglietti, Raul Castillo, and Jennifer Pena.
User ReviewTimothy FIt was a really nice story about friendship and survival a sad ending though.
User ReviewLinda EEngrossing story with some unexpected twists. Liked Jennifer Pena in her role.
User ReviewCristhian RA short film that portrays a big part of the real life for many that live the illegal life.
User ReviewLaurie TA comedy with an undertone of sadness, attractive actors (except of course for the overweight hero), somewhat implausible situations, some reality. (I come from a place where Latinos wait on corners for work, and I've experienced the demoralization of unemployment. The movie seems to try to explain the immigrants' situation from the outside, so there is an attempt at identification that doesn't entirely work. It has a good heart , though.
