AMERICAN HARMONY journeys deep into the ultra-obsessive, zany, and heartfelt world of competitive barbershop singing, where passion is equaled only by raw talent, and the reward is not fame or fortune, but simply victory. The film focuses on four quartets vying to win the International Championships of Barbershop Singing, in what turns out to be the closest and most controversial victory in its 70 year history. Max Q is the heavy favorite - a superstar quartet comprised of former Champions. Looking to upset them is OC Times (The Heart-Throbs), Vocal Spectrum (The Rookies) and Reveille, an aging foursome who that has been together for 30 years. In total, fifty quartets duke it out for the coveted gold medal, while facing the pressures of quartet life - from big egos to brain cancer and everything in between.

Most folks still think of barbershop music as 4 guys and striped vests singing "Buffalo Gals". Most choruses and quartets are taking popular tunes and singing them in a four part harmony. This movie gives you a quick view of how they got together, who they are, and what Barbershop Harmony Society is all about. I loved it and you will also even if you are not a barbershop singer. |

The groups featured are the cream of the crop, the best barbershop quartetting has to offer. Several of the members of those quartets hold multiple gold medals. You will come away with your eyes opened to how far quartetting has progressed over the past 70-80 years. Barbershopping is not what you thought it was. |

Like everything else in life, you either have to adapt with the times or find yourself irrelevant. American Harmony shows us that Barbershop Quartet singing is DEFINITELY adapting with the times! You GOTTA see this, even if you are remotely into accapella music! AWESOME, funny, enlightening, entertaining! Go see the movie and then go join a local Barbershop Harmony Chapter!!
