Movie Reviews

Slant Magazine - 10/10 by Jesse CataldoFervently passionate and formally meticulous, the latest stunning coup for a director who's made a career of repurposing archetypal storylines.
Time Out - 10/10 by Keith UhlichIt is the richly evocative performances of Marion (aggressive yet enticing) and Merhar (wearing world-weariness like an aged suit) that cut deepest.
Village Voice - 10/10 by Michael AtkinsonOne of the year's most hypnotic and fascinating films.
Film Inquiry - 10/10 by Amyana BartleyAlmayer's Folly had ample opportunity to build something, but ultimately it stayed locked inside of Ackerman's head, never to truly surface.
L.A. Weekly - 9/10 by Michael NordineAlmayer's Folly is lush and dreamy (if not quite dreamlike), but it never feels unanchored or given to pointless meandering. However hypnotic it at times becomes, this is a sober(ing) endeavor that never strays far from its post-colonial backdrop.
The New York Times - 6/10 by Nicolas RapoldAlmayer's Folly is not friendly terrain to traverse; like some sinister version of Proust, it is a prolonged fever dream that ultimately yields madness.
User Review - 10/10 by Nicole BThis film is well planned and executed. It moves with incredible quietness and fragility. There is an emotional depth to this piece. However, I had to watch this in three sittings, my personal feelings are that the film is long, slow, and arduous. It is an important addition to cinema and begins many important dialogues... but I had to try really hard to get through this film.
User Review - 1/10 by ZidontoThis movie was of no appeal to me what-so-ever. The camera shots were terrible and I strugled to grasp the true emotions of the key characters. A wary eye should be cast over this movie.
