New York TimesVincent CanbyAfter Hours is not, ultimately, a satisfying film, but it's often vigorously unsettling.
Chicago Sun-TimesRoger EbertAfter Hours is a brilliant film that is so original, so particular, that we are uncertain from moment to moment exactly how to respond to it. The style of the film creates, in us, the same feeling that the events in the film create in the hero. Interesting.
Spirituality and PracticeFrederic and Mary Ann BrussatReveals the intricate dynamics of male-female sexual dynamics and leaves us more convinced than ever of the bittersweetness of human love
Washington PostGary Arnold"After the Rehearsal" evolves into such a fascinating, convincing reflection of backstage psychology and emotional combat that it should prove irresistible to anyone susceptible to the lore of the theater.
Chicago ReaderDave KehrMartin Scorsese transforms a debilitating convention of 80s comedy--absurd underreaction to increasingly bizarre and threatening situations--into a rich, wincingly funny metaphysical farce. A lonely computer programmer is lured from the workday security of midtown Manhattan to an expressionistic late-night SoHo by the vague promise of casual sex with a mysterious blond.

Nick's Flick PicksNick DavisIngmar Bergman's own little Tempest in a teapot... Hardly light material, but it's pretty frisky stuff for Bergman.
Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzThe director's mea culpa for choosing his art over his family life.
User ReviewAndy PSo personal it almost hurts (but hey, the man directed a movie called 'Persona'). But as I always say, a Bergman a day keeps death away. What a filmmaker, and an artist - this is one of his most naked works, and seeing it again I'm reminded how good Erland Josephson was. Lena Olin rises to the challenge too, long before she became a semi-known Hollywood talent.
User Reviewld pI'm stunned. What a great film! Full of deepness, thinking cinema. A great background plot, in a basic scenery, with just three actors, and just one place. I recommend this movie to any Bergman's fan.
