Flick FilosopherMaryAnn JohansonA thrilling combination of drama, near-science-fiction, suspense, coming-of-age agita, and intellectual exploration of ideas. Pity it derails itself.
Cinema SightWesley LovellA heavy-handed and manipulative work of philosophical fiction featuring strong performances, but a troubled narrative.
The PlaylistNikola GrozdanovicWe'd be able to give this movie a pass if it actually took its own original concept seriously, which is the biggest problem that After The Dark perpetuates.
SF CrowsnestFrank OchiengRefreshingly, Dark wants to cryptically convey an honest conversation about the fate of mankind's fragile existence. Despite some questionable unevenness, a contemplative SF thriller that dares to assume its thinking cap in surrealistic experimental mode
Hollywood ReporterFrank ScheckAlthough it displays far more imagination than is usual for such teen-oriented fare, After the Dark ultimately sinks under the weight of its pretensions.
We Got This CoveredMatt DonatoAfter The Dark is a smart, witty, and thoughtful thriller that offers a fresh take on the apocalypse genre.
User ReviewAristotle NMakes you think a lot about the movie, your own reality, and the reality around you. The ending still leaves me puzzled.
User ReviewDarren BYes 5 stars. This film was smartly written, produced and directed. It had the What If premise throughout coinciding with varying degrees of thought - philosophical presence underlying each scene to the rather somber conclusion. The acting was great and the motive behind this unique film was no doubt to garner thought and try to answer the age old question of "what if" presented in various scenarios involving "end of the world." I highly and strongly recommend this film. It may not leave you with a smile on your face but it will give you what feels like a PhD.
User ReviewJames HOne of the smartest, most thought provoking films I've seen in a long time. It really makes you think about everyone's purpose. How ever valuable or invaluable you might think you are in the big picture.
