The scene where he socks a guy in the jaw with the Loose Lips Sink Ships poster in the background, then leaves with Julie Bishop who just sang Night and Day had me laughing out loud. Raymond Massey. Ruth Gordon and even Alan Hale do what they did so well. Yes, WW2 b.s., but it's a rare one in that the protagonists are Merchant Marines and the pacing is very good. Loved the multi language ending and punchline.

User Review - 8/10 by Allan CExciting WWII action film about Merchant Marine captain Humphrey Bogart and his crew fighting dirty Nazis in the North Atlantic. Crew members include Raymond Massey and Alan Hale. After watching the film I read that Ruth Gordon was also in the film, though I didn't actually notice her because I primarily think of her as Muade or Minnie Castevet and not as a young actress. Overall, the story isn't all that original, but the action is good and the cast is first rate.

Great role for Bogart as Joe Rossi, first officer on the Seawitch, taking goods from Halifax to Murmansk. Time and time again, he and his shipmates rise to the challenge in this well-directed propaganda piece. Though it's over two hours long, you'd never know it from the wealth of action provided. Nice seeing Ruth Gordon, decades before fame in a much different role in Harold and Maude.
