VarietyDennis HarveyAbsentia is very creepy, non-formulaic and more grounded in relatable personalities than the usual horror film filled with hottie victims and other stereotypes.
FEARnetScott WeinbergA melancholy tale of loss that's only peripherally a horror flick, but a good one all the same.
Reel Film ReviewsDavid NusairA rare (and total) misfire from Mike Flanagan...
User ReviewPete SI am shocked more people have not seen this fantastic horror film...the cover art is misleading! This is a well-acted, suspenseful, well-written movie that begs the audience to talk about it when it is finished. SEE THIS MOVIE.
User ReviewJimmi SVery well crafted. Some legends are warnings. Some things beyond our scope of what we can see may be real. Speration and loss from someone who vanished brings its own horrors of guilt, speculation, the torture of hope and never really knowing. Well drawn with real people playing real, flawed people. I love how it isn't a glossy CGI fest with pretty igenues and handsome boys. Thes elook like your neighbors, the people down the street. That makes this more real.
User ReviewHeather WI loved the storytelling. Definitely not for gorehounds- but those interested in scary with a story. There aren't many cheap scares where they flash cgi monsters to get a reaction. People expecting the 'scary teen movie' won't get it and that's what the cover makes it out to be. Seriously the artist that did the cover didn't watch the movie and it misrepresents the whole movie... Probably the reasons for the down votes. It's cerebral not flash.
User ReviewShawn MMade for less than 100K. Amazing return on money
User ReviewHugo Ga wonderfully creepy Lovecraftian...er.....Biercian horror film. I wish more were like Absentia and less bad guy/psycho/monster kills everyone one by one, almost gets killed two or three times and then is vanquished/kills the lone survivor.
User ReviewLudwine DGREAT movie! Super scary, not the standard, gory, shock-effect, would-be horror movie, but a movie that creeps up on you. There's a 'real' monster somewhere in the movie, but even though you hardly see it till the end (and even then it's briefly), the thing (whatever it is), doesn't matter. The atmosphere is just.. freaky.. On of the most horrible movies I've seen, resembling Insidious in terms of ambience. A must see!
User ReviewPeter COne of the movies that I think about when I'm up late, alone, at night. That has to count for something.
