Giving in to intense media pressure, the Home Minister in Delhi finally instructs the Central Bureau of Investigation to depute Special Officer Siddhant Chaturvedi to travel to Jhanjhar, Bihar, and work together with Pratap Kumar to try and locate three medical students from M.K. Gandhi Medical College. The three students, Gautam Sharma, Dhirush Patel and Dinu were in Jhanjhar to celebrate Dusshera and were scheduled to return back to Delhi. Ramesh Jain, the student Union President, informs the media that the trio were arrested by Jhanjhar Police and since then their whereabouts are unknown. Jhanjhar Police deny that the students were ever there, and are hostile, compelling the CBI to bring in more agents. While differences crop up between investigative tactics of the two agents, upper Caste Hindus, aided by the police, target the fearful Dalits and lower-caste Hindus, brutally torturing them and setting their houses on fire. With the entire local community refusing to come forward with any information, and pressure from the Chief CBI Chief to withdraw, the duo must now consider using other methods to try and find out what really happened to the three students.

User ReviewMurtaza MWHAT AN AMAZING MOVIE.....!! Loved it all the way through...... Ajay Devgan has been added to one of my fav. bollywood actors after Hrithik Roshan.... by giving mind-blowing performances in recent movies... Plot was so interesting.... was a bit long movie... bt it dsn't matter... P.S. :- True fiction story based on Real Indian Politics and problems of OBC's in small villages.
User ReviewAnoop KOne of the best works by Priyadarshan in Hindi. It's a mirror to the dark aspects of Indian society, dealing with a lot of issues from honour killings and anti-dalit violence to domestic violence. The story is predictable, but the screenplay is compelling enough. I'm not sure how this film will appeal if you have already seen "Mississippi Burning", but I think Priyan did a good job in porting it to Indian scenario, as ever :)

User ReviewSomya SBollywood tackles Honor killings and does a very good job of portraying that other India where caste is so important that the water wells are labeled 'black' and 'bright', where the old and archaic collides with the new with terrible consequences for those who dare to fall in love across caste lines, where the 'system' is so corrupt its hard to get a straight answer even for the almighty CBI officers from Delhi. Director Priyadarshan does a great job. Watch it.
User ReviewEric GA very well made and gripping version of Alan Parker's masterpiece: Mississippi Burning. The script is cleverly adapted to a parallel situation in India: honour killing and the difficult topic of inter caste marriages (or lack of) in particular, and the problem of caste relations in general. This courageous remake generates its dose of tension and political discourse, rare in the PC and non controversial world of Bollywood. It should be applauded. This film is closer in tradition to the indian neo-realism of Satyajit Ray. There is even a very serious spoken message over the credits from the director, exhorting the Indian population to live together and dismiss the caste system. The relationship between the two main characters, federal cops from Delhi with diverging approaches to the investigation, is well rendered and sustains a strong interest throughout. The actor who plays the deeply mean and rotten local cop is amazing. The film also contains some action and chases: car, bicycle, foot. For those interested, there is a nice 5 minute parkour chase over the roofs of the town. The photography is particularly good with beautiful colours and rich in details about the life of poor village people. The film is long, 2h35, which is normal for indian films in general, but because of a very good pace doesn't feel long at all, also allowing plenty of details to surface about small town and rural life. It "only" contains two songs, one of which is at the very beginning and fits well in the film, while the other one is unexpected and unfortunately destroys the tension of an important scene and a little of the credibility of the film, otherwise very good. There are some very strong and emotional scenes, particularly with the peasants, having to endure the vicissitudes of the locals in power: businessmen, police, religious zealots. The collusion between the local men in power is frightening. It becomes easy to understand how corruption works. Overall a nice surprise offering a refreshing and challenging perspective of some of the issues still confronting India today.
User ReviewRax KIt was nice to see a serious and gripping film in a long time. Ajay shines throughout the movie. I believe he is the most under rated actor in Bollywood. Akshaye compliments him well and their chemistry is superb.
User ReviewSaad Wnice movie , many such more realistic movies need 2 be made
