Josef Abrhám was born in 1939 in Zlín, Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia [now Czech Republic]. Born 14. December 1939 in Zlín. After two years of studying acting at the academy of performing arts in Bratislava, moved to prague DAMU, where he graduated in 1962. He started in the Theatre in Vinohrady, at the same time he also on the stage of the National theatre. After completing military service, he joined the emerging of the Drama club, with which is connected a pivotal stage of his theatrical career. In 1992 he accepted an engagement at the National theatre, however after two years he retired from the theatre permanently. For the first time in front of the camera appeared in 1961 in black and white moralitce Ceiling – the graduation film by Vera Chytilová. At the same time he filmed a small role in detective Vladimir Cech Where an alibi is not enough. The next year brought him a big opportunity - the extensive role of the lover in Brynychově don't Hide when it's raining and a slight figure of a Woodpecker in the following Transport from paradise. Challenging, however pleasant was the cooperation with the Jaromilem Jirešem on Screaming, and then one thing led to another. He has portrayed a variety of beautiful roles in movies 60. and 70. years: for example, the Great journey (1963), everyday courage (1964), Dita Saxe (1967), Pension for single gentlemen (1967), Parts of a beautiful dragoon (1970), a Girl to kill (1975).
