In the small Irish town of Ballymoran, the Cassidy family finds a red leather clad man passed out on their living room floor. The logical conclusion that they come to is that he must be an alien. When the alcoholic rehab escapee awakens, he continues the ruse and passes himself off as Zonad, an alien who has landed on their planet. Life is grand for Zonad as he becomes an instant celebrity who gets free beer, a nice house, and lots and lots of women throwing themselves at him... (Full plot summary below)

When the alcoholic rehab escapee awakens, he continues the ruse and passes himself off as Zonad, an alien who has landed on their planet. Life is grand for Zonad as he becomes an instant celebrity who gets free beer, a nice house, and lots and lots of women throwing themselves at him. But when a town resident becomes suspicious and fellow rehab-escapee-turned-alien, Bonad, shows up, Zonad may not be able to continue living the charmed life.

But it exemplifies a typical problem of the parody movie; it's all gags with no interest in plot, so by the time it gets to the point where there should be a climax and resolution, it looks pretty silly trying to create one. |

Zonad feels like a throwback to old vaudevillian Abbott & Costello style films. Its formulaic, ridiculous, and yet charming in its own unique way. |

WA small town in Ireland (a coupla hours west of Dublin) is subject to a stay by a strange visitor from an alien planet (NOT!), and the harmless shenannigans that ensue, all of which would make for seriously cringeworthy television, let alone a theatrical release. It's all in fun, yeah, and there's naught wrong with that ... but this film really needs a coupla spliffs to take off. It is filmed in Ireland. Maybe that's the only compensation you'll get. And beer. Get some beer, too. Lots of beer. |
