"We're gonna play a game of Snap! Pick a bracelet. Pull it hard!" But it's a game of desperate consequences in YOU ARE ALONE, a dark exploration of just how far a man and a woman will go to escape loneliness, if only for an hour. Daphne, a Yale-bound high school senior whose depression has blurred her sense of reality, works as an escort, advertising her services online. Her next door neighbor catches her as the "entertainment" at his nephew's bachelor party. With her hidden life precariously hanging in the balance, Daphne agrees to spend one hour with her neighbor. Initially confrontational, Daphne and her neighbor begin to shed their bitter layers of personal disappointment and general cynicism by talking about sex. It's eye-opening for her neighbor: BBBJs, dining at the Y, salad tossing, and, of course, Snap! But behind this teenager's jaded fantasies hides the very essence of heartbreak, acceptance, need, and desire...ironically paralleled by a broken man's desperate attempts to test the limits of her advertised promise to do anything and everything.

User ReviewMark ASo much about this was interesting to watch. Not particularly well made, yet still captivating.
User ReviewJeff CJessica Bohl was captivating and the film kept you in its grip with a very surprising ending...
User ReviewMike COpening scene hinting at giving a priest a golden shower: How could this film possibly go wrong? This is a film, by the way. It's a short one, under 90 minutes, and probably thankfully so. Had it been much longer, I might have been bored enough to shut it off. The acting, especially from Bohl, is superb. Very subtle and very real. Brundage is not as realistic, but his character does have the task of portraying what the writer wants. Grisham once went to Italy. To write about it, he came up with Playing for Pizza. This writer had a few things to say, and Brundage is how he said it. It makes for some stilted dialogue and actually frustrated me quite a bit for a while. Bohl truly is magnificent. I believe her character is a damaged girl that sells herself. She completely sells it. On top of that, she is quite attractive if not a little thin, so that's definitely a plus. Finally, the ending. Holy shit. Can't risk a spoiler here, but I thought some predictables did come true, then they sprang that ending. I am usually against the twist ending, but you don't even have to watch this twice to sit back and say, you know, that's definitely what they were setting me up for. If there is a strike against the movie, it's a little dry. It takes a little extra time for the story and characters to develop. Still, without that extra touch, the ending isn't nearly as powerful. As I was watching, I kept thinking that Leaving Las Vegas could not be beat for prostitution movies. And En La Cama is another good movie of just a couple in a bedroom the entire time. I still think LLV is head and shoulders above everything else, but this little movie did turn out to be a nice piece of art.
User ReviewCarolina RHow do movies like this go unnoticed?! I am guilty to admitting that halfway through the movie my interest wasn't intrigued just yet. Some of the dialog taking place between the two starring actors seemed far-stretched and farsical, however at other times it was simply wonderful and soul-stirring. Both the actors in this movie were amazing, but Jessica Bohl -although over-the-top sometimes- doesn't allow you to take your eyes off of her. What we're dealing with here is a claustophobic, marvellous piece of work with a magical folk soundtrack, that begs for attention.
User ReviewJessica Hafter they talked and all that he still wanted it done, why did he have to pick the clear one, why!!!
User ReviewTrinity CAmateur. Too damned cliche and tried too hard.
User ReviewVic CI got it thinking it was going to be great. I was really let down. I found it boring and not interesting. I fell asleep during the movie and I never do that. Not horrible though--just not really a movie I would recommend.
User ReviewJack dThe film claims to be 'in the vain of American Beauty', and while it is true that the torturing element of lonliness is everpresent in both films, the surreal perfection with which Sam Mendes created his world on Robin Hood Trail holds no real comparison here. In terms of lonliness, other films, such as Notes on a Scandal, deal with lonliness in the sexual realm, but not as persistently or blatantly as this film. Still, there seems to be a quiet way the film went about dealing with the fact that a precocious 18 year old girl, accepted to Yale, decides to be a Call Girl in Connecticut. Almost the entire film is conversed sexual dialogue between the main character and her neighbor, describing her 'job'. What exactly is the function of the neighbor? Well, of course he is just as lonely as she is and wants to save this girl from this evil world she intends upon herself. However, the ending of the film does prove the point the film intended to make all along-- very clearly. Still, I'm not sure I completely buy into the girls' reasoning, other than she admits to doing it only because 1) she can and 2) she's bored. That truth, given early in the film, leaves us feeling absolutely no compassion for this girl. Emotional voidance doesn't help this movie. Psychological depravity needs to be hailed in defense.
User ReviewBobby LUnbearable. The script, the pacing, the camerawork, the acting, all terrible. It was a really good premise (for the most part, the ending was beyond stupid) but it was completely wasted. Thank God the girl was easy on the eyes.
