New York PostKyle SmithThis is grim, bleak material that at times is monotonous, but its woe feels authentic.
New York TimesManohla DargisIt's disconcerting to watch Sweetness, tiny and light-skinned, assaulting Latonya, large and dark-skinned, partly because it bluntly if inconclusively underscores a crucial color divide that runs through this film like a throbbing vein.
BET.comClay CaneEven though 'Yelling to the Sky' tumbles, Victoria Mahoney shows great promise as a director.
Village VoiceMichael AtkinsonLittle more than a résumé film for all involved, it certainly feels more Park City than Bushwick.
User ReviewSpencer DListen... Yelling to the Sky - a powerful movie. A must see! A dear and truthful film about life long choices. Quiet yet eased with gripping punches that will have one ask questions about their own hands, verbalize soul, and inner power. Victoria Mahoney (director) alongside a superb cast knock this 5 star dramatic film out Yankee Stadium! Fabian Andrew Spencer Gibbs
User Reviewagustin gA very raw and realistic film that doesn't sugar-coat it. Great movie with a great cast to helm it. Zoe Kravitz is just perfect. I admire the director, Victoria Mahoney, for giving it her all to sprout her vision onto the movie scene. The experience of the film was very humble and not over the top. It was simple, but complex. Great independent film and hope that more people get to watch it and love it as much as I had.
User ReviewBrentin MThis is an amazing debut from Victoria Mahoney. It can be a bit Grease-y and afterschool-special-y, and the story meanders. But as total product, it shows grit and promise. Every actor turns in solid performances and Jason Clarke is my favorite actor right now. This deserves a viewing
User ReviewWalter MPart coming of age story, part kitchen sink drama set in Queens, NY, this is the story of a half African American, half Irish American girl trying to find her way in a bleak, unforgiving family and school environment. Convincing acting, but the storyline is a little conventional.
User ReviewHolly CPretty good movie. Keeps you interested and has an excellent story line.
User ReviewPhilip KI saw this movie yesterday and was really moved. It did a fantastic job of letting me feel the fear & uncertainty of a child growing up in a community of active addiction. The movie helps bring discussion to taboo subjects that face many of us. I highly recommend it.
