Movie Reviews

RogerEbert.com - 10/10 by Matt Zoller SeitzThe completeness and sureness of the movie’s aesthetic is a joy to behold, even when the images capture human beings doing savage things. You don’t really root for anyone in this film. They are criminals engaged in contests of will. But the film is not a value-neutral exercise. There is an undertone of lament to a lot of the violent action.
New York Post - 9/10 by Johnny OleksinskiWrath of Man isn’t as blatantly funny as “The Gentlemen” is, though it has its laughs, but it is taut and exhilarating without a single wasted moment.
San Francisco Chronicle - 8/10 by Mick LaSalleIf Wrath of Man has a weakness, it’s that even when everything is explained, it doesn’t quite make sense. But a movie like this is about pleasure in the moment, and on that score, it delivers.
We Got This Covered - 8/10 by Martin CarrWrath of Man is a slick action thriller from writer director Guy Ritchie, where retribution is only half the story.
Film Threat - 8/10 by Alan NgIt might be a typical Guy Ritchie film and loaded with every cliché in the book, but it’s still fun.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch - 8/10 by Katie WalshWrath of Man feels like a homecoming for director and star, and an evolution, too. With Statham in the lead, playing one of his classically taciturn and tactically lethal action heroes, Ritchie is as restrained and controlled as he’s been in years.
The Globe and Mail (Toronto) - 8/10 by Barry HertzRitchie pulls together an impressively determined thriller that sticks. Ideal for both a certain generation of viewer who gets excited when hearing the line, “We’ve got eight weeks of recon” and for those who will watch absolutely anything starring Statham (hi!), Wrath of Man is the best, bloodiest surprise of the year so far.
Austin Chronicle - 8/10 by Matthew MonagleWrath of Man may soon occupy the same rarified air as Joe Carnahan’s The Grey, another film anchored by an aging action star that promised revenge and delivered something more.
The Film Stage - 7/10 by Dan MeccaAt under two hours, however, the pulpy entertainment is welcome, including a bevy of twists that recall the recent (and slightly better) Den of Thieves.
The New York Times - 7/10 by Glenn KennyRitchie reveals crucial story points with clever time-juggling editing, and keeps up the tension well into the movie’s climax, which delivers exactly what the viewer will have come to hope for.
