Movie EyeFrank OchiengWeir's fish-out-of-water cop drama radiates marvelously as both a culture-clash romancer and as a compelling crime caper
Capital Times (Madison, WI)Rob ThomasA dynamic, thoughtful thriller that balances its themes extraordinarily well.
Urban CinefileUrban Cinefile CriticsMy favourite Peter Weir film, Witness is something special...Three years after Blade Runner, Harrison Ford is at his best, while Kelly McGillis in her second film role, exudes a Grace Kelly-like serenity.
EmpireIan NathanArguably Harrison Ford’s finest performance, and one of the strongest thrillers to emerge from the heady gloss of the ‘80s, this is director Peter Weir at his most adept.
Chicago Sun-TimesRoger EbertThis is, first of all, an electrifying and poignant love story....And it is also one hell of a thriller.
DVD ClinicScott WeinbergIt's got some action, some romance, a few drips of comedy, and a lot of fascinating insight into a culture we know very little about.
ReelViewsJames BerardinelliWitness states its position about clashing cultures with eloquence.
The Globe and Mail (Toronto)Jay ScottPeter Weir, the standard-bearer of the Australian Tradition of Quality, is on hand to smother all the contrivances in his solemn, academic style, and the result is a moderately effective, highly affected thriller.
Washington PostPaul AttanasioWhat saves "Witness" is its cast, and Weir's artistry in orchestrating and modulating their performances.
New YorkerPauline KaelWeir, an Australian filming in this country for the first time, has succumbed to blandness.
