User ReviewMASTER MACABREAhh I grew up with this movie, and it started my love for horror, I owe a lot to it
User ReviewJane Lokay, i know everyone says this movie is bad, with the crappy special effects - but isn't that what makes 80s movies so great?
User ReviewRyan MOh god. Ok so this movie truly is horrible, but as one of those movies I grew up on it does hold some nostalgic value. Unfortuately Bette Davis' last role in this movie is minimal but its good too see here for a bit. Worth checking out for the sheer crap that it is, but not much else.
User ReviewGiffy GI was really torn about what to give this movie; because the good parts are REALLY good and the bad parts are REALLY bad. I decided to split the middle and call it a 3. Bette Davis and all of the in-referencs were hysterical. This movie actually made me laugh so hard I had to pause on three separate occasions. Furthermore, the unbelievably campy nature of their plan to remove the witches were beautiful. However, the special effects were painful, the script was unorganized, the private detective subplot did not pan out, and the movie's audacity to account for a sequel was a bit much. Worth a look for Bette fans, otherwise, probably skippable.
User ReviewChristopher LIt's hard to rate this movie because it was sort of funny in that kind of way, but so horrible in other parts. I'm like "aaaaaa" but I think a decent three will work. It was funny and yet not, but it did have me laughing in some parts. Bette Davis was a true gem.
User ReviewRobert RFunny, campy like an extended TALES FROM THE CRYPT story. Bette Davis looked & acted awful tho as this was her last film. Luv David Rasche & Colleen Camp always.
User ReviewAndrew JA truly bizarre movie. Quite watchable but be prepared to pick your jaw up off the ground. Very hard to classify, like watching a train wreck in slow motion.
User ReviewNicki MKind of like watching a car crash. I was interested to see this as it was Bette Davis's final film. I was disappointed to see she's only in it for about 20 minutes (if that). I read up on it online, and it seems she was either too ill to finish it, or else she walked out due to a bad script. Either way seems plausible. Bette is extremely frail looking here. Still glamorous, but frail for sure. The way she speaks her lines is really campy - I know she wasn't that bad an actress! That alone almost put this right up there with The Room for me. Unfortunately Bette leaves to be replaced by her daughter, and the whole thing goes downhill. I can only assume they did some huge rewriting. I think I may actually have really liked this if Bette had stayed through the whole thing. (Don't get me wrong, it still would have been awful, but a funny awful). The rest of the cast are pretty tragic. The daughter doing the sexy dance when she's not, the wife (although I didn't mind her) really can't act either - the grandpa was probably the better actor out of all of them, and that's saying a bit. Special effects sucked, but hey, the 80's, I could overlook that. All considered can only really recommend this to fans of Bette (who will most likely be disappointed by the briefness of her role) or people who like really, really bad movies.
User Reviewstefán birgir sThe last film of Bette Davis, she only appears (presumably, as the crypt keeper) for the first 20 minutes or so because she walked of the set few day into filming when she realized she won an Oscar twice. Bizzare in every way - and not really in a good way. Larry Cohen directed and wrote - his worst movie of many bad ones...
