Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC)Ken HankeAt least Shanghai Surprise was nice to look at and had some George Harrison songs.
Chicago TribuneJohanna SteinmetzThough filled with witty lines, fast-paced overlapping dialog, and screwball situations, this film too often sinks to Police Academy-style stupidity. The only reason Who's That Girl works at all is because of Madonna and Dunne.
Washington PostHal HinsonTechnique counts for a lot in directing a picture like this -- more perhaps than in any other genre -- and Foley doesn't have any. His approach here is to toss things up into the air without caring much where they land. And as a result, the noise they make when they land is not a pretty one.
The New York TimesVincent CanbyMadonna, left to her own devices and her own canny pace, is a very engaging comedian, and the screenplay, by Andrew Smith and Ken Finkleman, contains a lot of raffishly funny ideas that get lost in the busyness of the physical production.
FlavorwireJason Bailey'Who's That Girl' is so eager to please, it ends up being a very hard movie to hate. Sure, it's formulaic and overcooked, but it's ultimately a pretty typical '80s comedy, no better or worse than average.
Movie MetropolisJohn J. PuccioThere is nothing wrong with Who's That Girl that a different script, a different director, and a different star wouldn't have fixed.
User ReviewAmy KLOVE MADONNA IN THE 80'S ! ESPECIALLY MATERIAL GIRL AND WHO 'S THAT GIRL ! YOUR FAN AMY KETCHAM
User ReviewMartin Athis was unfairly panned, yet its funny, fast and a good story line, i loved it,
User ReviewMarta BPorque a los 13 años me iba alos cines más extrarrádicos de bcn solo por verla, por Madonna y porque todos tenemos nuestrafrikimovie..si es que aún me emociono cuando la veo..ais...
User ReviewWayne ZSilly 80's fun from Madge as a kind of punk rock Betty Boop type chacter, Nikki Finn. She just acts so dorky in this film, and i love it! She's trouble (as mentioned in the title song) and Griffin Dunne is sent on a mission by his boss to get her on the bus and the hell away from where she might stir up more trouble. Unfortunately, but naturally, Grifin's character falls in love with her and all sorts of hi-jinx occure. I really like this film, but 1. I am a Madonna fan and 2. I did have my head rammmed into a wall when i was a kid.
