WHORES' GLORY is a cinematic triptych on prostitution: three countries, three languages, three religions. In Thailand, women wait for clients behind glass panes, staring at reflections of themselves. In Bangladesh, men go to a ghetto of love to satisfy their unfulfilled desires on indentured girls. And in Mexico, women pray to a female deity to avoid facing their own reality. In worlds where the most intimate act has become a commodity, these women have physically and emotionally experienced everything that can happen between a man and a woman. For this they have always received money, but it has not made their lives rich in anything but stories.

Movie Reviews

DCist - 8/10 by Pat PaduaThe women of Whores' Glory seek...salvation in their faith, but this sometimes glorified look at their lives reveals only the darkest nights of the soul.
AV Club - 8/10 by Scott TobiasGlawogger studiously avoids explicitness until he gets to Mexico, where he finally goes past the bartering stage and behind closed doors as business is conducted. Pleasure isn't part of the transaction.
New York Times - 8/10 by Stephen HoldenQuietly powerful but dispiriting documentary, which compares the world's oldest profession as practiced from place to place.
Salon.com - 8/10 by Andrew O'HehirBoth a wrenching journalistic exploration of real life and something close to great cinema.
Time Out - 8/10 by David FearThere are no lava-spewing natural phenomena or gut-wrenching slaughterhouse sequences in this unofficial companion piece, but you do witness sex tourists in Bangkok choosing numbered "girlfriends" as if they were picking out lobsters in a tank.
Screen-Space - 8/10 by Simon FosterThe hopelessness of (the prostitute's) situation sometimes infests Glawogger's film, making it all seem pointlessly depressing at times, but it is a powerful work nevertheless.
Boston Phoenix - 8/10 by Gerald PearyGlawogger works hard at being objective and dispassionate and unsentimental, but he's clearly on the side of the working girls, and horrified by their salivating johns.
Village Voice - 8/10 by Mark HolcombMichael Glawogger's fearless Whores' Glory demystifies trick turning with a bluntness and sneaky artistry that's sure to make even the most jaded of us choke on our next sitcom-hooker-joke chuckle.
Compuserve - 6/10 by Harvey S. KartenA boundary-breaking documentary about the world's oldest profession as seen in three cities.
Boston Globe - 6/10 by Mark FeeneyGlawogger has the good sense mostly to stay out of the way and let the material speak for itself.
