Antagony & EcstasyTim BraytonPolitical documents from prior generations can't help but lose their force, and yet this is just as powerful now as it ever could have been.
StarburstScott ClarkWhat begins as a comfy film about an old (if stubborn) British couple in their twilight years becomes a scathing attack on apathy.
LYTRules.comLuke Y. ThompsonThe images from the movie are haunting, and have stuck with me the past few days, but I feel like maybe I've dragged them out of my subconscious, where they no longer belong.
User ReviewEric On His Fantasy Quest VUtterly extraordinary. I grew up with the book but only saw this recently. The source material is such that the film can't fail but the soundtrack, animation and voice acting allow for a very emotive experience. It's up there with "Grave of the Fireflies".
User ReviewJohn MPossibly the saddest animated movie I've ever seen. Very dramatic wartime piece.
User ReviewCam BDidn't realise it was on Youtube till one of the kids at school who I'd forced the book onto let me know about it today. Unfortunately, I don't think this story will ever grow old...
User ReviewDee RAn astonishingly gentle (and slightly dated) but disturbing portrayal of what would happen in the event of a nuclear war. The music (Bowie), animation (same as The Snowman) and subtle humour throughout just makes you wanna shake the telly and cry about all the bad in the world. Will always be a nostalgic favourite.
User ReviewShaun MI think this film is the sole reason i want to work within animation, rented from Ritz video in 1986 and it had a profound effect on me, i was only 5 and didn't know that cartoons (as i thought at the time) could look like this.
User ReviewNeil GMade by the same dude as the snowman. But this is some next level cartoonage. Gripping story by the end of it I "got something in my eye".. nuff said
User ReviewRobert SI don't know what to say yet. One of the most shocking films I've ever seen, but yet so quiet.
