Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzGrim ladylike suspense story, that's well-acted and has a well-conceived story that keeps you in suspense to the end.
Film FrenzyMatt BrunsonA brisk pace and bravura turns by the two leading ladies keep this one popping.
User Reviewdonald dOne step beyond "Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?" Ruth Gordon vs. Geraldine Page. Clash of the Titans!
User ReviewLinda NStaring Ruth Gordon & Geraldine Page, very interesting for it's time. Great , but very hard to find a copy of. I saw this 1st when I was 16. That's when I began loving Geraldine Page, & Ruth Gordon!
User ReviewRalph TCutting, bitchy, scathing.Great stuff.Geraldine Page and Ruth Gordon are excellent in a cold battle of wits...but who wins?
User ReviewBenne SI hadn't seen this since I watched it as a child in the 70s and I have to say I really enjoyed seeing it again. Although not at all scary it is still very entertaining and slightly comedic. Its also an interesting window into how much the horror/thriller genre of film has changed in the almost 50 years since this was made. Whilst this is less well known and therefore less popular than Hitchcock's 'Psycho', in my opinion it definitely deserves the same "classic" status. Perhaps even cult status. Geraldine Page is wonderful as a neurotic, reclusive, cocktail drinking psychopath. I love the way she laughs after she has notched up a new victim. Ruth Gordon (Minnie Castevet in Rosemary's baby) is equally good as the ballsy Mrs Dimmock aka Aunt Alice.
User ReviewCHRIS PReason I planted pine trees in my yard! LOL! Very hard movie to find on DVD!
User ReviewDavid SA black comedy with horror-thriller undertones, the plot is unconventional with some truly unexpected turns of the plot and the performances are immensely enjoyable. Nothing truly original and the pacing is slow, but never the less it still is a witty comedic suspense film that is worth seeing.
User ReviewAnthony LRobert Aldrich produced this darkly comic suspenser in the vein of his own classics 'What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?' and 'Hush... Hush, Sweet Charlotte'. The plot and production values are a step below - but the spirited performances by Geraldine Page and Ruth Gordon, as well as the unusual score by Gerald Fried, make it work. Melodramatic and dated, but a lot of fun for those reasons - entertaining for fans of aging actresses movies, but not one of the best.
User ReviewDavid PGreat actors and some good black comedy, but this is a thriller too, and as a thriller it's predictable and lacks suspense. Overall, it's an okay movie, but it could have been a lot better.
