Combustible CelluloidJeffrey M. AndersonThings pick up in the dark final third; there's a famous -- very Langian -- scene in which Scott, tied up with rope, escapes by holding his bonds over a real fire.
User ReviewMike POne of the best westerns ever made, right up there with "Shane" and "The Searchers".
User ReviewSteve HGood, traditional oater. Not bad for someone new to America (Lang).
User ReviewAdam SThe second of Lang's three American Westerns, about the connecting of telegraph wires to the west, and the nominal complications that arise. Not as sprawling as John Ford's similar themed "The Iron Horse", but Fritz Lang was still enough of a big name at the time to warrant some pretty spectacular outdoor location photography.
User ReviewZoran SSurprisingly good. Lang elevates the generic material nicely.

User ReviewJohn R130823 141029: I've always heard the civil war was a dark and destructive time, and apparently the chaos it caused even occurred between combatants on the same side. Found this film an enjoyable fictitious look at the laying of the telegraph line across the US. Well worth watching even at 73 years of age. Some strong acting and characters.
User ReviewJames HSprawling and well produced western depicting the Western movement in the US during the 1800's. Not very inspired, but entertaining. A decent cast does an adequate job. Fritz Lang's direction helps.
User ReviewAllan CA good western romp and a sturdy performance as ever from Randolph Scott.
