GuardianWendy IdeThere's a glorious streak of surreal mischief displayed here.
User ReviewRoscoe SThese two are still the best, I've owned this movie for years. Check out a couple clips in my videos.
User ReviewBill JAbsolutely the BEST Laurel and Hardy feature movie they ever made! They sing, they dance... they have great dialogue... the slapstick is wonderful and their timing couldn't have been better. Stan Laurel produced this picture and paid attention to every detail. It's a gem. Free wheeling fun!
User ReviewMark RLaurel and Hardy reruns were a regular feature on children's TV when I was growing up and this is a great example of the duo at their prime. Famous as much for it's "lonesome pine" song as anything else, for me the delight in seeing Stan Laurel's permanently baffled face... A classic!
User ReviewRichard PStan Laurel had more comedic talent than Chaplin and Keaton combined - proven in a movie that despite being over 70 years old, can still have an audience of children and adults in stitches. James W Horne's no nonsense direction gives Stan & Ollie plenty of room to breathe and deliver the laughs, while James Finlayson has never been bettered in the art of the double-take (even by the pigeons in Moonraker). The duo also get a chance to dance, in the wonderful soft shoe shuffle sequence and Ollie gets to show off his rather lovely singing voice on the classic 'Trail of the Lonesome Pine.' We will never again see a pairing like Laurel & Hardy: this movie should be preserved and treasured.
User ReviewBrandon CWorth playing and replaying. They are so perfect for each other in every way! I love the singing and dancing and the facial expressions!
User ReviewJane KAnother fine mess they've gotten into...hilarious!
User ReviewJoe GArguably the best Laurel and Hardy film along with Sons of the Desert. One of the best screen comedies ever. Timeless visual gags with a style all their own. One of the few old films that my kids have seen and enjoyed.
User ReviewMurray HThis is a cracking talkie comedy with everything you'll need, excellent songs, physical comedy and lampooning of the western genre.
