| User ReviewPatrick MI've thought about it for 10 minutes or so as to why I would give this 4.5 instead of a perfect 5 and every reason I come up with is bad. Like the movie's age, the lack of famous actors, or the old special effects. Yet you shouldn't give a movie a bad rating because of it's age, unknown actors at that time, or old special effects. That's like saying the older Star Wars movies aren't as good as the newer one's because of the special effects. Yet the special effects were great for that time period, I remember first seeing this movie and they were awesome then. Now the deal is the movie is great, it's great because it's a story that isn't a remake, and it has never been remade. This movie has sequels but they are not directly related to this original movie and storyline. I think this movie is so good because of many reasons, such as the hero of the movie and the evil character or Warlock play there roles so well. Meaning they travel the 300 years through time right? Well during the entire movie you never lose that sense that they really are from 300 years ago, meaning that you feel they are from the 16 or 17 hundreds. They don't ever at any point acclamate to the new time period they are in. It's just fantastic. Also the hero of the movie and his "side kick" type character the girl Kassandra plays off his seriousness with a perfect wit or humor to it. Finally the last reason would be the Warlock himself, he just plays his role so well, like you feel he's really evil. Not with some weird twisted way we see today with killers like Jigsaw from the Saw series, but instead with this, "I'm really a fucking demon and will kill you" attitude. It's just intense. This movie I would recommend for everyone since it's such a great story. |

| User ReviewChris HIt's like I say, I really into witches (boy or girl), and Warlock is such an awesome horror film! it's about an evil Warlock (Julian Sands) who escapes execution in the past by traveling through time to our present (1988). He's followed here by a witch hunter (Richard E. Grant from Bram Stoker's Dracula) trying to avenge his "goodwife" Marian (whatever the heck that means - a girlfriend or wife or what). He teams up with a modern girl Kassandra (Lori Singer), who had an aging spell placed on her by the warlock. The warlock is trying to gather the pieces of the devil's bible - The Grand Grimoire and undo all of creation; you know the book does exists : The Grand Grimoire is a black magic grimoire (spell book) that claims to date back to 1522. It is widely suspected that it was written some time in the 19th century. It was ostensibly published in Cairo by a person known as Alibek the Egyptian. Also known as "The Red Dragon", this book contains instructions purported to summon Lucifer (The Devil) for the purpose of forming a pact. In the film's story, the book had truly supernatural properties and was therefore separated into three sets of pages so as to prevent its evil power from being misused. I kind of like the KassandraxGiles pairing (though no one ever thought of doing a shipping of them), to me it's like Rumiko Takahashi's Kagome & InuYasha (only it's the other way around - it's like the man who overcome time and the girl who helped him). |
