Los Angeles TimesKimber MyersWith its solid production values, Unplanned has all the appearances of being a real film, but viewers in favor of abortion rights will find it to be pure propaganda. Writer-directors Chuck Konzelman and Cary Solomon spend more time making their talking points than developing their characters, who exist merely to make their arguments.
Movie NationRoger MooreFilmmakers Chuck Konzelman and Cary Solomon pound their points home like Madison Avenue vets, worried if they don’t use a ham for a cudgel, their audience might miss the point.
VarietyOwen GleibermanUnplanned isn’t a good movie, but it’s effective propaganda — or, at least, it is if you belong to the group it’s targeting: those who believe that abortion in America, though a legal right, is really a crime. It’s hard to imagine the movie drawing many viewers outside that self-selected demographic.
The Hollywood ReporterFrank ScheckThere have been films that treated Nazi doctors conducting evil experiments in concentration camps more sympathetically.
The A.V. ClubVadim RizovThere’s not a single scene that speaks to characters with lives outside their streamlined narrative function; they’re performers in a parable traced over a Chick tract, filmed with a bland competence at odds with the true perversity of the material. Old-school Pure Flix: Welcome back!
The Globe and Mail (Toronto)Barry HertzUnplanned will make you writhe in agony over how such an ugly, malicious and potentially dangerous piece of religious and political propaganda could have made its way into this world.
User ReviewRenightsThis movie tells the truth as told by a real person who actually lived this horrible chain of crimes against humanity.
User ReviewSam123Great movie--very well made. Everyone should go and see this. Tells the truth about the abortion industry that Planned Parenthood doesn't want you to know.
User ReviewScienceTeachDadThe true story of a woman who rose through the ranks of Planned Parenthood to become a facility director and national Employee of the Year... only to finally realize that her employer's stated goal of reducing the need for abortions did not match with its actual, more lucrative goal. Seeking forgiveness and redemption, she walked away from her corporate career to continue helping pregnant women in crisis... but to actually help them, not just convince them to kill their children. Is there blood? Yes. But only in the context of realistic medical procedures and emergencies. It's not much worse than a typical episode of M*A*S*H. Is there violence? Only against fetuses, and a news broadcast that states a murder occurred. Frankly, the only things any reasonable person could find offensive in this movie are an honest portrayal of pro-life Christians and a brutally honest portrayal of a horrific billion-dollar industry. Go see it WITH your kids... it'll give you a lot to talk about.
User ReviewktnappUnplanned is an excellent movie telling the true story of a former Planned Parenthood employee who sees clearly the truth about what was going on there. Gripping and emotional, it has a very positive ending that gives hope.
