| User ReviewDuje GUnion Bound is a great movie based on a diary of a soldier that ran away from prisoner camp during civil war. During the escape and their path from deep south into freedom soldiers were helped by many slaves. Since the story was based on a diary i believe that the writer did a great job with the dialog between the characters to bring the diary story to life. Overall great movie with great story and i would recommend it to anyone. |

This movie is about Joseph Hoover and Tom Ryan, both Union soldiers who are fighting to uphold the union, but get captured by Confederate soldiers during a battle. After escaping from a prison, they travel hundreds of miles back to their troops, helped along the way by Jim Young and many other slaves. The film was made beautifully. John Errington's writing and cinematography are stellar and the acting is magnificent. The directing by Harvey Lowry is top knotch. His eye for everything of the period really brought this film to an unexpected level. The tone and pacing are great. Tank Jones and Randy Wayne are truly standouts. Expect to see great things from these guys. I expected to see more fighting in a civil war movie, but this film really isn't about that. Don't miss this film. |

| User ReviewSteve RThis is a fascinating page in the history of the Civil War based on the incredible story of Sergeant Joseph Hoover of the Union Army, who escaped from a Confederate prison camp and made his way North with the help of black slaves and the Underground Railroad. Director Oliver Stone's son, Sean, plays Hoover and is solid, as is Tank Jones as the slave who helps him. As directed by Harvey Lowry, the film looks beautiful, with gorgeous locations in the deep South, and riveting performances. I also thought the musical score was terrific, with able work from a number of artists, including Cactus Moser. |

The white Union soldiers being aided by still-enslaved blacks demonstrated that love for humanity is possible even in the worst of life's circumstances. The faith element was woven into the plot naturally, rather than being preached to me by Reverend Obvious. I'm glad that Hollywood is getting it! |
