Leave your thoughts about Twins.
Chicago Sun-TimesRoger EbertTwins is not a great comedy - it's not up there with Reitman's "Ghostbusters" and DeVito is not as funny as he was in "Ruthless People" and "Wise Guys" - but it is an engaging entertainment with some big laughs and a sort of warm goofiness.
Los Angeles TimesMichael WilmingtonSchwarzenegger proves to be mildly amusing, but DeVito seems to be coasting on his past reputation as an audience pleaser.
Chicago TribuneDave KehrA star vehicle from its onset, this peculiar, mediocre comedy strains to accommodate the talents of both Mutt and Jeff, Terminator and troll. It's a Frankensteinian thing, an unsettling combination of two-fisted beefcake and mean-spirited shtick.
EmpirePhilip ThomasThe humour, when it comes, is on a par with Reitman's Ghosbusters, but the film feels, rather than the solid comedy it is, like a massive missed opportunity.
User ReviewOriginalDangerTwins is a 1988 comedy but it does have the odd bit of action however it's all mainly purely comedy. Twins is an Ivan Reitman film which he directed in 1988 and stars Danny DeVito, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kelly Preston, Chloe Webb, Marshall Bell, Nicolette Larson and many others..... Twins is about twin brothers of course which is no surprise, Julius (Schwarzenegger) finds out he has a brother and travels round the world to find him only to find out he's his twin brother but bares no resemblance but the twin brothers played by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito set out to find their mother. Marnie Mason (Kelly Preston) takes an interest in Julius Benedict (Schwarzenegger) and Vincent Benedict (DeVito) is up to his neck in trouble with the Klane brothers and has a girlfriend played by Chloe Webb... Twins is mainly comedy but also had many romantic scenes, few scenes maybe unsuitable for kids but doesn't get explicit and it's a family comedy more than anything... There's bits of action and humour throughout and Kelly Preston is drop dead gorgeous and Twins is filled with amazing music. The acting is great and Schwarzenegger is so ridiculous at times it adds to the comedy and the chemistry between the actors especially Schwarzenegger and DeVito is dynamite. Check this excellent film out.
User ReviewHabibiehakimTwins is fun yet very enjoyable, with Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito great chemistry, it's just funny and fun to see both of them, added with Preston and Webb delightful performance, Twins is a very good time.
User ReviewMovieGuysTwins as a movie itself is only okay, but it produces one of Arnold's most enjoyable roles, so that's a plus. DeVito doesn't really add anything new, and relies on his previous roles to fill this one.
User Reviewkyle20ellisThe story has a tendency to get on the tenuous side, but this is essentially a very enjoyable fish-out-of-water comedy. It is a one-joke concept but it does that rare thing, the whole film works. It is nicely filmed, the music is good, the direction is skillful, the film does move at a comfortable pace and the script has a lot of nice and funny touches. Beside these things some memorable scenes and the acting made me enjoy Twins even more. I especially loved Arnie's awkward attempt at romancing Kelly Preston, that was a real comedy highlight. Acting wise, both leads are on top form, Danny DeVito is hilarious as the dim-witted scuzzball and Arnie is endearing and handles the comedy well as the intelligent and naive genetically-engineered brother. The two teamed up again in Junior, that film wasn't as good or as entertaining, but I personally enjoyed it even with its problems. Twins for me will be the better film, because while it is one-joke and occasionally tenuous in terms of story(loved the concept I will admit and on the most part it did work very well) it is very enjoyable with great lead performances in particular.
User ReviewFilipeNetoThis film is part of a set of comedies that marked the nineties, and which was starred by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Not all of them worked well, but the fact is that they remain quite fresh in the collective memory and are still present in some TV channels specialized in cinema. In this film, we see the meeting of Jules and Vincent, two non-identical twin brothers who are the result of a highly secret genetic scientific experiment, which aimed, in practice, to refine human genetic characteristics. They didn't know each other and will, together, learn to know each other and discover what's left of their blood family. In the meantime, Vincent will try to get rid of the criminals who are chasing him, and help his brother to find a girlfriend. The film runs on a frightening premise... especially when we think about what has already been done in the name of genetic and racial enhancement. The scientific basis for the experience that the film recounts also seems to me dubious and questionable, as does the way in which Jules lived in isolation, without empirical knowledge of the world until he reached maturity. So the film has a lot of weird and unbelievable things for such a tiny script, but I tried my best to relativize that, give the film a chance. I felt it was fair, as it turned out to be a good bit of entertainment, able to make time go by quickly and have fun. It's not a movie that makes us laugh to tears, but it has its moments. Although the cast has names like Chloe Webb or Bonnie Bartlett, the leading is entirely of the duo Arnold Schwarzenegger & Danny DeVito. Eager to show that he could be more than a beefy action figure, the Austrian giant was huge in the way he clung to his character and made him truly likable, even though I sometimes considered him artificial. DeVito excels in his histrionic, exaggerated, sly and dishonest character. The actor's over-acting fit well with the character's personality. I still think we can particularly mention Kelly Preston's work: she was no more than a sexy girl to be Schwarzenegger's love interest and didn't have much to do, but she pulled off well. Technically, the film is very understated and doesn't stand out. Most of the production values are standard and are within what we would find in an average film from the nineties. This is the case of cinematography, costumes, props, sets... they fulfill their role well, but they don't bring anything really remarkable. The soundtrack deserves a positive note: it's not bright, it has a very eighties-style sound, with synthesizer and electronic touches, but it works and makes itself heard. The editing was done with some care and guarantees a pleasant pace, with the story going smoothly and without delay.
User ReviewSteven1981Twins is a 1988 comedy that stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito, Kelly Preston, Chloe Webb and Marshall Bell... Arnold Schwarzenegger who plays dumbo Julius Benedict discovers when fully grown he has a brother so travels half way across the world to find him but neither of them look alike and there's no resemblance yet they are twins lol.. The story is laughable and silly but Julius (Schwarzenegger) finds his brother, Vincent Benedict and helps him out with his troubles including goons after him and threats of violence against him. The comedy is not that great to be honest but Danny DeVito steals the show for me because Schwarzenegger seems very dumb in this movie which is embarrassing. The acting is okay besides Schwarzenegger's lol and the action scenes aren't that impressive either but the highlight of the whole film and the only real reason to watch Twins in my opinion is Marnie (Kelly Preston). Kelly Preston is so young, beautiful and sexy and saves this turkey of a film and oozes sex appeal and beauty and the scene where Kelly Preston comes into Arnie's hotel room and is on all fours on the bed is mouthwatering then gets on the floor with Arnie and smokes a cigarette is sexy as hell.
