TRANSCENDENT MAN chronicles the life and ideas of Ray Kurzweil, an inventor and futurist that presents his bold vision of the Singularity, a point in the near future when technology will be changing so rapidly, that we will have to enhance ourselves with artificial intelligence to keep up. Ray predicts this will be the dawning of a new civilization in which we will no longer be dependent on our physical bodies, we will be trillions of times more intelligent and there will be no clear distinction between human and machine, real reality and virtual reality. Human aging and illness will be reversed; world hunger and poverty will be solved and we will ultimately cure death. Critics accuse Ray of being too optimistic and argue that the dangers of the Singularity far outweigh the benefits, pointing out the apocalyptic implications that once machines achieve consciousness, we may not be able to control them. Whether Rays controversial ideas incite excitement or fear, dogma or disbelief this ambitious documentary will forever change the way you look at life, death, and your own future.

Movie Metropolis - 7/10 by Christopher LongIs Kurzweil a crackpot? Opinions vary, but one thing everyone agrees on is that Ray Kurzweil is brilliant.
User Review - 10/10 by Derek CA very important documentary... whether people understand/except it or not, by watching this film it is at least a step in mentally preparing the viewer for the future, and the technologies that will more than likely exist in some form or another.
User Review - 10/10 by Jon LInsightful. Well worth the watch. Kurzweil is an expert worth getting to know. No doubt our world is evolving at a pace that is accelerating at an exponential rate. I even understand what that means now, and I've been talking about it for years. This is very "nutritious" food for thought.
User Review - 10/10 by Josh PThis is a fascinating documentary about a man I had never heard of who is doing wonderful things at the cutting edge of technology, and has been for many years. Ray Kurzweil is brilliant and seems to think that man and machine will be mixed in years to come. I didnt agree with some of his ideas but his opinions are tough to argue with. He believes in the exponential whereas I think the Gaussian curve might be more apt! The film was a good length and looked beautiful while watching it on my laptop on a warm summers evening in my garden via netflix. Theres not much more to say except anyone with an interest in technology should watch this film and realise how far you have to go to reach the levels of Ray K. The man is a legend.
User Review - 10/10 by Sky CRay Kurzweil is brilliant and this is a fascinating look at the exciting (scary? profound? incomprehensible?) possibilities of our future. Necessary viewing for all intelligent humans.
User Review - 10/10 by Gino PThis was outstanding. Been hearing a lot about it lately . . . now free on Netflix Instant!
User Review - 10/10 by Joe OTHIS, is your future. It's a wild ride, and it's already started! I highly recommend this to anyone that is even semi-intellectual, or that have children. This is the future. I really do recommend this.
User Review - 10/10 by Dara DIf you enjoy technology and where it can/will go in the future, this is a MUST see.
User Review - 10/10 by Roberto NOne of the best docs I've seen in a long time.
User Review - 10/10 by Arthur VDO NOT MISS THIS!!! Kurtzweil author of The Age of Intelligent Machines, and The Singularity Is Near. Transcendent Man documents Kurzweil's quest to reveal mankind's ultimate destiny and explores many of the ideas found in his New York Times bestselling book, The Singularity is Near, including his concept of exponential growth, radical life expansion, and how we will transcend our biology.TRANSCENDENT MAN chronicles the life and ideas of an inventor and futurist Kurtzweil that presents his bold vision of the Singularity, a point in the near future when technology will be changing so rapidly, that we will have to enhance ourselves with artificial intelligence to keep up. Wow what a documentary about the future and near future of humans combined with technology. This is a must see documentary for everybody interested in technology life philosophy religion spiritual things and even death. Kurtzweil goes into depth and minute details of his future forecasting where Alvin Tofler in 1970s Future Shock was a more general educational sociological discussion with no real meaty insight into what the future will bring. This documentary is excellent also because it contains and covers some of Kurtzweils critics and they explain how he is/could be wrong. Both views are just fascinating and filled with intellectual tidbits, technology future, and philosophy.
