| User ReviewMaddie FI saw it twice, and ended up liking it even more the second time. To be fair, I've always been a fan of teenage rom coms, especially the '80s and '90s ones. Never Been Kissed, 10 Things I Hate About You, Better Off Dead, and Sixteen Candles have always been near the top on my list of favorite movies. Next to these iconic giants, Tim Timmerman, Hope of America held it's own. Since it takes place in the '90s, the film reflects some of the nostalgic charm of the past greats, but it in no way feels like a contrived throwback or a mimicry. It is refreshingly different. The film is set in Utah, but still is relatable to everyone. As someone who has only lived in Utah for a few years, I think the film-makers did a great job portraying quirks of living here, without alienating or excluding those who don't. You always feel like you're in on the jokes, which is something that will definitely help this film if it goes nationwide. Tim Timmerman is the perfect late-night flick. It's goofy, yet incredibly clever, with running jokes and subtle nuances. It's cheesy without ever being cliche. And it's innocent without ever being dull. Five stars!! |
