Classic Film and TelevisionMichael E. GrostOK Jerome Kern musical, with some well done Vincente Minnelli musical numbers added to the mix.
EmanuelLevy.ComEmanuel LevyMGM's bland musical biopics about Kern distorts basic facts, and lacks energy and imagination; the only good sequences feature Judy Garland and are staged by then husband Vincente Minnelli.
User ReviewNate TStar studded cast knocks it out of the park in this one.
User ReviewZoran SGreat tribute to Jerome Kern... And even better cause he was played by the hottest cuter guy Robert Walker! Oh my gosh how much I like him lol... Great musical number with a lot of wonderful full name performers... Frank Sinatra wonderful and of course my favorite Judy Garland who was pregnant with Liza Minnelli in that movie... You could see her little baby bump so cute... A delight of stars and musical numbers with a great story.
User ReviewAllen GUse you chapter search function to skip the plot, which is strictly dulls-ville, and head to the musical numbers, which are top-notch.
User ReviewGreg Wprimo big budget musical as only MGM could do
User ReviewKelly PAlthough it's a highly fictionalised life of Kern, it is such a great pleasure to see Garland, Sinatra, Horne, Lansbury and many others perform in one film!
User ReviewCarolyn DWhile it's not the greatest old-school musical I've ever seen, the star-studded cast performing the amazing music of Jerome Kern makes up for it. A nice historical bio of Kern's life, but not the most enthralling of films.
User ReviewNatalie MGood story. Not always great performance.
User ReviewChrisanne SIt's the musical numbers that you watch this one for-- and they are pretty great.
