Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzAn unusual contemporary Western featuring a compelling theme about refugees making a go of it in their new country among pioneers.
EmanuelLevy.ComEmanuel LevyThis mediocre John Wayne vehicle is a message film about refugees escaping Nazi-dominated Austria; the original title (I Married a Nazi) was changed for political reasons.
User ReviewGreg WOutstanding movie John Wayne is my family favorite actor
User ReviewCassian Jive seen ever single john wayne movie because my dad and uncle love wacthing them
User ReviewPaul CVery average contemporary western with Wayne phoning in his usual stoic role and Coburn provides the films moral centre. Basically a propaganda film extolling America's can-do attitude and in the beginnings of it's entry in World War II.
User ReviewAnna NRather uninspiring and absolutely predictable 'modern western', which tried to inject shades of 'Casablanca' into the 'Grapes of Wrath' template and fails miserably. Whilst John Wayne fills his boots with competency, and Sigrid Gurie is good eye-candy, the film wants to meander along, and its quite hard to get involved with the characters because they are so one dimensional. Add a sprinkling of War propaganda into the mix and we know that all the while we are being told what to think... there is no breathing space here for the mind.
