Kansas City KansanSteve CrumBlack comedy featuring great British comedy actors
Laramie Movie ScopeRobert RotenIt is a farce with a lot of class and style, carried off with some brilliant acting. It also has what most films with idiot plots lack, restraint, subtlety and sly wit.
Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzMildly amusing silly black comedy set in Victorian England.
VarietyVariety StaffMills amusingly hams his way through two or three sequences as one of the dying brothers. Richardson, bland, imperturable old bore, is superb. He and Wilfrid Lawson, portraying a decrepit butler, virtually carry away the acting honors.
Flipside Movie EmporiumRob VauxAn inspired English farce; Ralph Richardson is irresistible.
User ReviewFrances Ann ATHE most wonderful black comedy--okay, it can share its place next to Murder He Said with Fred McMurray and Marjorie Main! Everyone in this film is hilarious, especially the doddering old butler, and Peter Sellers in a bit part as a shady doctor. Hilarious!
User ReviewFrances HOne of the greatest comedies of all time. Peter Sellers venal doctor cameo alone would make this movie hilarious, but the great, witty dialogue, classic performances of the outstanding cast, and wonderful adaption of the Robert Louis Stevenson and stepson book make it a comedy home run that ranks up there with Monty Python and the Holy Grail,Woody Allen's Love and Death, and A Funny Thing Happened on My Way to the Forum.
User ReviewJacob GA very interesting comedy. It actually makes you think and leaves you wandering what will happen next
User ReviewElizabeth MVery clever typical Brit comedy of that era. Completely entertaining and easy to watch multiple times.
User ReviewJonathan SMy all time favorite comedy, classic site gags, a comedy of manners about England in Edwardian times, with an all star cast that have the time of their lives making this movie a total gas. I don't know how they said some of the lines they did straight faced. If you like to laugh, and you like to really dig into a movie to catch all of the jokes, this is the movie for you. I'm so glad it is finally listed here now.
