Leave your thoughts about The Wrath of God.
| Los Angeles TimesNoel MurrayThe Wrath of God is often too clever about teasing out its mysteries. But it has a strong and challenging theme, asking whether its characters’ misfortunes are their own fault, or just a case of the Almighty playing capricious games with humanity. |
| User ReviewJLuis_001I hate thrillers that hide the simplicity of their plot in an illusion of pretentiousness for which they are simply not up to the task. This in order to trick their audience into thinking they are more ingenious than they really are. The shortcomings of this film are too many because of its inarticulate development and above all because of the total absence of mystery. It's not even a problem that you don't give a **** about what happens to the lead character, but when the explanation becomes clear, the film closes with a total lack of momentum that can't make up for the tedious journey. It's cruel yet so hollow. This film is about obsession, but the script focuses more on mentioning it than developing it, just as all the events leading up to the ending are completely devoid of context. They are merely an excuse to move the story forward. The incompetence piles up and it becomes abundantly clear that more intelligence is needed to develop a mystery worth solving. The Wrath of God will only be so for those who believe they have found an enigma worthy of them. |
