User Review - 10/10 by Bruce BStar Oddyssey (1979) and War of the Robots (1979): ok i gotta admit one of my guilty pleasures is my love of late 70s star wars cash ins. wether they be the japanese ones or the italian ones. these two are italian. basically they are cheapos when it comes to FX but they still have alot of cool kichtsy stuff in them. most of the plots dont follow star wars at all acutally. they just throw in minor references like glowing swords, funny robots, han solo wannabes, and x-wing type star battles. the stories themselves are pure space opera gems. imagine film versions of those cool Eerie and Creepy magazine space opera tales. some other ones to check out are The Humanoid, Star Crash, and Message From Space.
User Review - 10/10 by peter hITALIAN!!!!!!!! late-late movie with one of my favorite soundtracks. stars ANTONIO SABATO (from Fuga Del Bronx aka Escape from the Bronx and Escape 2000). Cheap-assed STAR WARS wanna-be. STILL CHEAP-ASSED . . . STILL ITALIAN!!!! I LOVE THE MUSIC!
User Review - 6/10 by Unca CUnca Chaoz is back! Let's see, "War of the Robots" This is an Italian sci-fi flick. ... Pretty much say's it all, doesn't it? The movie starts with aliens that look like the Children of the Damned breaking into a futuristic facility on Earth and kidnapping two scientists. Anyhoo, a group of soldiers dressed in the hippest space fashions from Milan decide to rescue the duo from the Aryan aliens. During the rescue they come across a race of blind people who they free from tyranny. As it turns out the aliens have lost the ability to procreate and need the scientists to start artificial life. There are some surprise turns so I'll give them credit for that. But, other than that and some 'Star Wars' rip-off moments; there isn't much to see. The interiors and even some of the spacecraft look like rejects from SPACE:1999. The 'special' effects are 1960's quality, at best. While I assume this thing makes more sense in the original Italian - it's quite atrocious in English. The dubbing is terrible as well. The acting - well let's just say an attempt was at least made to act in this movie, but the inferior quality of the sets probably drained the enthusiasm by the end. On the other hand, It's probably about halfway thru that the cheese factor takes hold. Call it "Stockholm syndrome" or something but at some point the entire silliness of it all just overwhelms even the boredom of the movie. Probably where the soldiers use 'rayguns' that don't actually shoot rays. There's just a 'piu' sound and the aliens fall. Hilarious. The most positive thing is that most of the women wear skintight leotards and tunics. Well, at least we have that going for us. Oh and did I mention that the one of the scientists has to also a stop a nuclear reactor from going Ka-bloeey on Earth? Fun rating: 6 (drips more cheese than a pizza pie) - fans of "good, bad films" and "Euro-Schlock" will probably get a kick out of it. Serious fans of SF and cinema will only collapse into convulsions. Interest rating: 5 (best as a rental only - and only if you happened come across it)
User Review - 4/10 by Josh KThis film is a right load of old nonsense but it does have the drop dead gorgeous Malisa Longo in it.
User Review - 4/10 by Ben RReally bad Star Wars rip-off, with bad characters, cheap effects and cheesy lightsabers, a boring plot, and annoying sound effects. The story is confusing and jumps around too much, making it hard to follow, but it's hard to care enough to even try to follow this bad movie. The American title doesn't make a lot of sense either, since there are only a few robots in the film.
User Review - 4/10 by Vladdy TroutPainful, painful, painful movie to watch!!!
User Review - 2/10 by Grëg Wa star wars wannabe. since this came out the year after the original star wars, it tries hard to come up with a likable plot but it ends up getting lost in the mix with all the other sci-fi rejects.
User Review - 2/10 by Justin Wit's pretty bad all-around. the story is dumb, the cinematography is horrid, and the acting is absolutely terrible. on the plus side, it's a VERY easy film to make fun of...so, if you've got some quick-witted friends, invite 'em over and have fun ripping the movie apart...'cause that's the only way you'll have fun watching this film.
User Review - 2/10 by WK JEerily similar in costumes, set, actors, director, aliens and even title to WAR OF THE PLANETS... and maybe even worse than that film. No one recycles ideas like Italian films. A real struggle.
User Review - 2/10 by Dave RLa Guerra dei robot (aka Reactor, aka Robots, aka Stratostars, aka War of the Robots) is a pretty deplorable science fiction movie that came out hot on the heels of the success of Star Wars, and it shows. I'm sure that the people involved had plenty of knowledge about what they were doing and trying to ape that success. Many a sci-fi film that came out in that era did exactly that. While some were better than others, this is probably one of the worst ones. It has some fine camp value to it, but not enough I'm afraid. I wish it did. There's nothing really overly impressive about it one way or another, but if you're of the right frame of mind and you're looking some camp, you may or may not get some enjoyment out of it.
