Waiting in London's Heathrow Airport for a flight to New York City, Frances Andros (Dame Elizabeth Taylor), seen off by her tycoon husband Paul Andros (Richard Burton), plans to leave him for aging international playboy Marc Champselle (Louis Jourdan). Les Mangrum (Rod Taylor), a self-made Australian businessman traveling with his loyal secretary Miss Mead (Dame Maggie Smith), must be in New York City the following day to arrange the loan that will help him repel a hostile takeover of his tractor company. Max Buda (Orson Welles), a movie mogul travelling with starlet Gloria Gritti (Elsa Martinelli), must get out of England immediately or face ruinous British income tax. The Duchess of Brighton (Dame Margaret Rutherford) has taken a job as a hostess at an American holiday resort, thinking she will be able to keep her family estate on her new income. Fog descends, blurring the future for them all and forcing them to wait in the airport hotel for morning and fair weather.

EmanuelLevy.ComEmanuel LevyAn all-cast star succeeds in camouflaging the thin plot of this adventure-disaster flick
Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzIt's jet-set entertainment for celebrity watchers and those who will watch anything while a passenger in air flight.
The New York TimesBosley CrowtherThe V.I.P.s is, gratifyingly, a lively, engrossing romantic film cut to the always serviceable pattern of the old multi-character Grand Hotel, and some of the other people in it are even more exciting than the two top stars.
Cinema SightWesley LovellTrying to shoehorn a talent ensemble into a trite premise results in unmitigated failure.
Hollywood ReporterJames PowersMiss Taylor needs something stronger than this to display her talents, and so does Burton.
The TelegraphSarah CromptonIt is rubbish, and whereas Taylor’s playing can sometimes redeem utter nonsense, it doesn’t quite manage it here.
User ReviewGeoff GI waited AGES to see this film after reading a review of it in Vanity Fair. Well worth the wait. Some really great dialogue (in a cheesy, over-the-top stage drama sorta way) and beautiful clothes. Don't be put off by the fact that you know exactly how things'll play out within the first 10 minutes; its completely by the numbers but fun. Does anyone mind if I have a crush on Maggie Smith? I didn't think so.
