NYC Movie GuruAvi OfferIrresistibly entertaining, provocative and bold.
Screen-SpaceSimon FosterThe Upper Footage is a strong vision of personalised horror, a modern take on morality amongst the privileged and a textbook case of inventive genre marketing.
User ReviewSteve HOne of the best films I've ever seen. Period. Exposing, realistic, and most of all, monumentally important.
User ReviewTiffany AI don't understand how so few people know about this. Amazing but really disturbing. Get ready to spend hours researching it afterward.
User ReviewBrian TYou find yourself forgetting to breath throughout the movie. Keeps you on the edge of your seats.
User ReviewNicole BGet ready to choke on your popcorn while you're paying more attention to the screen than your own chewing. I went in unsure and prepared to leave if I didn't like it, then found my mind locked in on the footage. My mind processing what my eyes were seeing. My mind forcing my body to stay. No matter how appalling some of the scenes were, it was something I couldn't take my eyes off. To keep my brain sane I had to see what happened next. This was most definitely one of the most shocking movies I have ever seen and kept my mind swirling with thoughts about it many days after. It is extremely intriguing and I most definitely recommend watching it.
User ReviewJavier GUpper (The Upper Footage) is a found-footage film that works much better than others because of its realism. All of the dialogue, shot composition, acting, etc. feels legitimate and in-the-moment. The plot encapsulates the night of a group of NYC socialites that go through a series of twisted events after their plans take an unexpected turn. "Upper" isn't a horror film in the traditional sense, but there are moments that will have you tense, and they work all the better because the situations unfolding in front of you feel like they're grounded in reality. No demons or witches, just a group of coked-up rich kids that are confronted with a very disturbing decision. Underlying all this, though, is a very resonant statement about how far our society's upper-classes are willing to go to clear up their names, at the cost of their own morality. The Upper Footage can be many things; poignant, disturbing, suspenseful and even humorous at times, but its always immersive and never boring. Be sure to give it a watch and spread the word, the guys behind the marketing are being cheated at every corner, and a project of this nature is sure to attract eyes by word-of-mouth alone. This film deserves to be seen, and we can help make sure that happens. 5 out of 5.
User ReviewJoe KThe Upper Footage is definitely one of the few Found Footage style films that truly embraces and understands the essence of this kind of story. The tension of the story itself plus the excellent delivery and execution in recording the events in the film make this not only a unique experience but also a great thrill as the audience becomes one with the camera, that 5th witness to the events of the night.
User ReviewMatthew SBlake, Taylor, Devin, and Vlogger Will drive around New York City looking for cocaine and women. Devin finds a young woman, Jackie and all five of them go back to Blake's apartment and an accident happens. I know this is a very brief overview on the film, because I think it is far better to know as little as possible going in and then after the film look on the internet at the marketing and recent issues. If you wish to know more a quick Google search should give you a wealth of information. I first saw an article about Upper on Bloody-Disgusting almost two years ago and was intrigued. The marketing campaign was top notch and left me wanting more. I finally have got to see the movie and I was really not sure what to expect. The first half of the movie is a little on slowish side, plus I knew what ultimately was going to happen because of the marketing, but it does a fine job in establishing the young adults for what they are, rich and only worried about drugs, hooking up and themselves. After watching the movie the next day I talked about it with co-workers and wanted to talk even more but I did not want to give anything away so I just encouraged them to view it. It has been two days since I saw the film and I am still thinking about it, which as far as I am concerned is the definition of a good film, to make you think and keep thinking after the film is over. Upper is not an easy movie to watch nor is it an easy movie to review. The best bet is to watch it and decide for yourself. The ending of the film left me angry over what had transpired because these rich spoiled young adults had not taken responsibility for their actions. The film is a commentary on the socialite/"Upper" society and media. It might be a love it or hate it film, but love it or hate it the film should spark some great discussions.
