User Reviewgary twow i have just seen this movie 4 the 1st time n think that this is an ok war movie...this is nothing special but i guess its ok 2 see..this is a strange role 4 daniel craig - mr. james bond to play but this is an ok movie 2 watch its nothing special but its alright 2 watch...this has got a good cast of actors/actressess throughout the movie..the director had done a good job of directing this movie because you never know what 2 expect throughout this movie because he keeps you on the edge's of your seats throughout this movie so you never know what 2 expect throughout this movie..imn not sure what other movies/tv shows/tv movies paul nicholls has done or been in because this is the only thing of his i think ive ever seen n think that this is an ok war movie..its not the best war movie ever made because theres so many good war movies that have been made like, the trench, apocolypse now, platoon, full metal jacket, saving private ryan, the thin red line, nd a few more war movies but this is ok 2 watch n its got a good cast of actors/actressess throughout this movie
User ReviewBobby Bsome good performances by a few famous actors!
User ReviewJohn PI find the low viewer ratings for this movie absolutely unreal n, as it is one of the 2 or three best WW 1 films I have ever seen , If one is genuinely fascinated with the war and the era...or at least has a strong interest....this movie speaks volumes . There are no love scenes , no gratuitous violence ( although plenty of relevant violence ) , no effort to make 1916 morals and speech appear more like our own . This is simply a spot on , accurate portrayal of what WW 1 was really like , much as Band of Brothers was for WW 2 . In short , I have never seen a better war movie .
User ReviewDenise HBefore any young man/woman enlists in a branch of the military, they should watch this movie. Set during WWI, it shows a group of British troops preparing for the Battle of the Soame in France. This was the biggest, bloodiest, and most costly (in human lives and military blunders) operation in the entire war. The arrogance and incompetence of the officers, the fears and emotions of the enlisted men, and the Sergeant who tries to keep it all together. Daniel Craig is that Sergeant ..a standard life-long military man with a wife and kids...and seemingly hard as nails. His Lieutenant drinks to cope with trench warfare. And the enlisted men who came from all walks of life and had proudly and quickly "signed on" to battle for King and country and are now cruelly staring death in the face. The courage and folly of war are examined and the ending is inevitable. NOTE: also watch the "extras" after viewing the movie. Actual photography and newsreels made during the war help to flesh-out the strategies of both armies and the unbelievable conditions in which they fought.
User ReviewJared MGood film, along with good graphic deatils of trench situations.

User ReviewJim FFirst of all not a film snob, second I DESPISE the fact I have to log in on facebollocks to even register an opinion.. Feck Facebollocks I do like the casting and the photography of the film, giving the (Ugggh) reality type feel as it tracks an intimate and developed character leaden cast through to the inevitable climax (hey people watched titanic and were surprised at the ending go figure) I found the cinematography and the characterisation very good, and overall a very emotive and enthralling look back at a type of warfare and indeed a war that too many forget. Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori.
User ReviewCheyenneThis is a simplistic WWI film with no special effects, no wartime cliches, and it is all the better for it! This moves the focus from the effects onto toe plot and character development. Daniel Craig's characters' accent is odd to say the least! I liked this film, it had a lot of attention to detail yet at the same time I feel there was quite a bit missing. I thought WW1 battlefields were full of liquid mud and rats? We didn't see any of that, the trench was almost immaculate! Towards the end, I did wonder if the actual ending would let th whole film down but I was quite impressed, it was not totally OTT like it could have been.
User ReviewBen AThis was a great film which when i first watched it.. it was on BBC3
