American tattoo artist Jake Sawyer wanders the world, exploring and exploiting ethnic themes in his tattoo designs. At a tattoo expo in Singapore, he gets his first glimpse at the exotic world of traditional Samoan tattoo (tatau), and, in a thoughtless act, unwittingly unleashes a powerful angry spirit. Jake Sawyer (Jason Behr), an American tattoo artist, exploits ethnic designs from around the world. Wile at a tattoo expo in Singapore he meets Alipati (Robbie Magasiva) and learns of the traditional Samoan tatau. When the Samoans refused to show him their ways or their designs Jake tries to learn more by talking with Alipati?s beautiful cousin, Sina (Mia Blake), he soon falling for her and even tattoos her. But when Jake impulsively steals an ancient Samoan tattooing tool, he unknowingly releases a powerful angry spirit. Now his art work is killing everyone he's tattooed. Jake tracks the Samoans to Aukland trying to find a solution to what was happening but found nothing but Pacific mysticism and half truths. Now Jake must recover his own soul and find the killer of the evil spirit if he is to save the woman he loves and escape with his life. THE TATTOOIST is a supernatural thriller, made by Singaporean and New Zealand co-production partners. | User ReviewCurtis RI loved this film. It was scarier and edgier than "The Grudge" & "30 Days of Night" which came from the same producer. Jason Behr was outstanding as Jake Sawyer, a tattoo artist who specializes in tribal healing tattoos from around the world. While at a tattoo expo he meets Sina(Mia Blake), a beautiful Samoan girl who exposes him to native Samoan tattoo practices. Fascinated he steals a Samoan tattoo instrument which also happens to carry a curse when it injures his hand. Everyone he tattoos afterwards begin dying mysteriously and he must turn detective in a race against time to save the last one he tattooed and the girl he loves, Sina. Great special effects and as a fan of Samoan movies and culture, I liked the Dvd featurettes as well on Samoan Tattooing. |
