User ReviewMarci WThis version is dark and sinister. Kingsley is an unlikely villain, considering one would never suspect Gandhi of being a ruthless, calculating, mass murdering barber. This movie contains none of the camp associated with the Sondheim musical version. Very powerful and eerie.
User ReviewRuth PTurns out that the "Sweeney Todd" story is great. I have not seen the Tim Burton version yet, but we all know what happens when Johnny Depp and/or Tim Burton are part of an equation.....you get tasteless shit. Like many pieces of trash previous, this movie credits both of their names. In protest of Johnny Depp, I will hate every Johnny Depp Movie ever made..... Because he sucks. In protest to Mr. Burton, I will watch all previous releases of "Sweeney Todd", but not his release....because Tim Burton sucks. This is the first "Sweeney Todd" movie that has no relation to Mr. Burton or Ms. Depp that I have watched thus far, and it is good. 4 more to go.
User ReviewAaron CSo some people didn't like this movie... It was a good film. If you like a good musical go see it, if you dont like musicals however dont go see it then leave and start trash talking it. It's filmed with distinct style and is a really fun satyrical story that will keep you begging for more. Def a winner in my book
User ReviewMichelle GGood movie, but too bad I had to see the old one instead. It was cool I wanna know how Human flesh meat pies taste. I wanna see the new one but I'll have to wait.
User ReviewLauri AilaneNot bad... It starred Sir Ben Kingsley, there was no singing, like in the Johnny Depp version.
User ReviewLuke BAnother great rendition of Sweeney Todd. It's great to see stories that can be retold and remain interesting. This throws out the idea of Sweeney as a victim, or his looking for revenge. This is much more in keeping with the original tail. A man that murders for greed. The best part about this film is that is doesn't try to justify the actions or make us sympathise with Todd. He's a terrifying and grotesque creature. Cold, calculating and very deceptive. The investigation narrative is just as interesting as Todd's deeds. I'd still put it behind Winstone's Sweeney Todd, due to the sheer power of that production, but it stands above and shits upon Burton's misfire.
User ReviewRebecca MIt was available as a free movie on "On Demand" so I checked it out. It was pretty good. I haven't seen the one with Tim Burton or the Johnny Depp one though.
User ReviewJessica DWatched it free on On Demand. Wasn't nearly as good as the caption made it sound. I was very disappointed. I can't wait to watch the Johnny Depp version, hopefully it will be better.
User ReviewHannah KThis version of Sweeney Todd isn't a musical. It's actually not that bad and although I haven't seen the new Tim Burton version yet I am giving this one three stars for the performances (especially from Ben Kingsley as Sweeney Todd).
User ReviewJon Na great effort and an excellent Miss lovett played by lumley very enjoyable.
