User ReviewSpencer MPhenomenal film. Some of the best dialogue I've ever heard.
User ReviewGarrett JAn excellent film for people who appreciate and crave great dialog. I felt myself more emotionally involved with both these polar-opposite characters, than I have with any other movie I have seen this year. As an atheist, I even found myself wanting White to find find god. (if only to restore his will to live). I was fearing, at the same time, that would happen. An all too predictable and hokey conclusion. But was pleasantly surprised with how it was concluded. It somehow re-iterated and re-enforced both parties beliefs in a way that demonstrates the impossibility of either point being able to be declared the right one. Faith requires you to turn a blind eye to reason, and in that sense, simplifies the world to a point which can be tolerated. I found myself in a stale-mate with White and Black. Feeling both admiration and pity for both characters.
User ReviewGary M SIncredible performances. Terrific rendering of a Cormac McCarthy play. It's like it was written for Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson.
User ReviewSharan SIntense movie ... brilliant actors who carried the whole movie thru ... had to see it in 3 parts tho ... lil at a time ....
User ReviewSpencer WTwo stellar performances and a twisted, brilliant, script that will undoubtedly wreck your mind, and possibly your soul, before it is all said and done.
User ReviewRobert AEnjoyed thoroughly. Can't think of two better actors to play the light and dark side of life and the decisions/responsibilities to each other than Sam Jackson and Tommy Lee Jones.
User Reviewstefano l2 people, 1 room (2 with the bathroom). That's all. No plot, no action, no trama development (at least phisical development). 2 hours of discussion in a room, a match between 2 men, 2 ideas of life, 2 ideas of death. 2 hours of philosophical discussions. It could be boring, very boring. But the rythm of the speeches, of the gestures, of the movement of the 2 characters keep everything perfectly linked and amazing to watch. The movie starts slowly, Jackson, self-confident and outgoing, clearly take the scene in the first part, overhelming Jones's character, quiet and discouraged. But with the time passing by, Jones awakes and the movie enters is most violent part. Yes, because this film is violent. Violent in the possibly worst way, the one that hit your soul, more than your body.
User ReviewEric BI really don't have a great comment to leave like the other 2 but I have to admit, this movie was epic! Intelligent and wonderfully done. I can understand why it didn't hit theaters but also I think it should have. It would have people see both views on the subject. I love the quote that Jackson makes about the Bible being a tool for the ignorant, because in all actuality, Knowledge really is power and takes away our innocence. The more you really know about this world, the more you don't want to be a part of it. But in summation I give this movie 5 stars, absolutely a movie for the person with an open mind and the intelligence to not leave room for controversy.
