Movie Reviews

Toronto Star - 8/10 by Rob SalemThe animation is great, in its stark, mostly monochromatic way, but the music merely serviceable.
Film-Forward.com - 8/10 by Kent TurnerAfter the success of the irreverent The Book of Mormon, this would be a natural for the stage-Broadway would be so lucky.
Reel Film Reviews - 6/10 by David NusairAn exceedingly off-the-wall animated endeavor...
Eye for Film - 6/10 by Amber WilkinsonThis is a film of two halves, with the half involving sweetness and light muddled and limp in comparison to its tougher, more sinister flipside, while the ending is almost unforgivably trite.
EmanuelLevy.Com - 6/10 by Emanuel LevyThe ever-diverse Patrice Leconte has made an original, darkly humorous animation about a store assisting suicidals.
Globe and Mail - 5/10 by Liam LaceyToo grisly for kids, or at least their ticket-buying parents. At the same time, the bouncy musical numbers with their contorted rhymes are unlikely to be embraced by any self-respecting Goth teen.
User Review - 8/10 by Olivier BTrès drôle, poétique, mignon et divertissant, je le recommande beaucoup!
User Review - 6/10 by Robert HAn extremely adorable 3D - 2D animated French musical that deals with death, life, depression, and ADHD. The music is quite catchy at times and I found myself humming the main song of the film on the way home. The subject matter is a little bit much for children so don't think of this as something you'd take your kids to see. Make sure you check it out yourself first, then make the judgement based on your own and what they can understand and deal with. Of course, unless your kids are into subtitles, they might not be into this film at all but that doesn't mean parents can't enjoy this fun little film. I know I did. I was impressed with the 3D as it wasn't the shadow box effect I was expecting but rather gave depth to an otherwise flat 2D image AND allowed for some nice enhancements to the picture. The ending of the film doesn't quite live up to the first half as it seems a little too optimistic compared to anything previous. That and it just didn't make sense.
User Review - 6/10 by Frédéric HI really love the book. This is a good adaptation but there were too many singing scenes which should have been shortened.
User Review - 6/10 by Riley HReally great to look at. Not something most North American parents would let their kids see, yet definitely not meant for adults.
