Chicago ReaderDave KehrIts intensity is impressive and remains uncompromised by the prettifying aesthetic touches Truffaut adds here and there in an apparent attempt to distance himself from the overcharged material.
EmanuelLevy.ComEmanuel LevyLove, obssession, and madness, key issues in most of Truffaut's work, also define this meticulously made 1975 film, arguably his last masterpiece.
The New York Review of BooksMichael WoodThe poignancy of the movie is a little facile, but it's a real poignancy.
Creative LoafingMatt BrunsonTruffaut's study of Adele is ofttimes almost clinical in nature, but Adjani brings more than enough volcanic passion to the project.
User ReviewSarah FTHIS IS AMAZING! Ms Adjani portrays tragic insnaity brought on by love-lost misery in a poignant impossible swirl of pacified emotion that is completley moving, gripping and beleievable, at the same age as Keira Kinghtly somehow I fell this is a far greater achievement!
User Reviewali hOne of my very favourites, it's heartbreaking and it's an oscar winner.

User ReviewThe BUn des grands role d'Isabelle Adjani.
User ReviewDini. PA woman with an absent father (Victor Hugo adored Adele's older sister) who falls for an absent lover... until she loses her mind over it. Romantic and tragic: the best Truffaut movie and certainly the best Adjani performance (BTW the Director was indeed in love with the actress).
