Blu-ray.comBrian OrndorfMore of a commercial for the wrestler than a true overview of life-shaping events, but the documentary scores in intimate moments and interviews.
IGN MoviesMatt FowlerDirector Igal Hecht has pulled together a compelling film about an extraordinary man. There are moments of true heartbreak and tragedy mixed with wild road stories and the Iron Sheik's trademark over-the-top personality.
EntertainmentTellStephen SilverIt's a fascinating look at a fascinating man- at times, unintentionally so.
Under the RadarJulia BembenekA parade of talking heads, augmented by stock footage and photomontage for the bulk of the Sheik's wrestling days.
User ReviewRob AI just watched The Sheik's movie and I liked it. This movie really shines light on how important he was and is to sports entertainment. People talk about crossover guys, like Lesner, Lashly or Brooks (CM Piunk) or Ken Shamrock, Dan Severn, Kurt Angle and Lesner (?) coming back the other way, The Sheik could have easily made a strong go in MMA, I'm not sure what is striking ability would have been like (I'm guessing above average) but his wrestling skills and strength would have kept him in bouts. So Bob Backlund holds the WWF World Championship for six years and refuses to drop the Heavy Weight strap to Hogan, he claimed the fans would never buy it if he lost to Hogan, he said that the Hulk wasn't a legitimate athlete. Guess who he thought was ? If people don't hate the Sheik Hogan never gets over, he needed a bad guy and he got the best, America Vs Iran, it was huge and current at the time. Hogan goes on to to change everything, Putting guys over in wrestling is part of the business all the greats get it, sometimes you lose and its your job to sell it. Watch the movie. The Rocks talks about the influence he's had on his career.
User ReviewKutty KIt's been released on Netflix and worth the watch -- hell, it's worth the subscription. What a phenomenal man.
User ReviewJoubin BI thought it would be an interesting a fairly good movie prior to watching. I wasn't expecting this documentary to be a great as it was. Highly recommend!!
User ReviewAndrew SIt's a nice bio pic, but you probably have to be a wrestling fan of the 80s to enjoy it
User ReviewO CA very entertain & interesting documentary, even if you're not a wrestling enthusiast. The film paints a great picture of the truth behind the act. and goes just deep enough to show you glimpses of a unique man's rock bottom and his big heart. A bonus feature of The Sheik were the secondary interviews (i,e. Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.) This is a good watch.
User ReviewLuigi TAn eye-opening documentary about a great wrestling legend The Iton Sheik....Brutally Honest.....
