Combustible Celluloid - 8/10 by Jeffrey M. AndersonA peculiar thriller with some horror overtones. It conjures up a wholesome small town feel, complete with nosy neighbors and gossip, and an undercurrent that grows increasingly darker.
Creative Loafing - 8/10 by Matt BrunsonThis isn't a noir in the traditional sense, but it boasts enough ingredients to pass as one.
User Review - 10/10 by Dave JWonderfully odd, atmospheric, one-of-a-kind film. Robinson is mesmerizing and the forest scenes are very effectively dream-like. Is it a noir? Well, it seems like one to me, but certainly not a typical one.
User Review - 10/10 by Chris TUnsettling and classical film noir, a movie that appeals to the stark fear of the unknown.
User Review - 8/10 by Matt MAn old man and his sister conceal a terrible mystery from their adopted daughter, concerning a red house deep in the woods. The Red House is a thriller that closely boarders with the horror genre. Its intensity and unravelling mystery is quite absorbing, and Edward G. Robinson's performance adds great power to the mix.
User Review - 8/10 by jwasu rTerrible quality sound and picture couldn't ruin a pretty great unknown film - I wonder if there's a good restored copy out there. It's a little slow at the beginning, but there's lots of good here. Robinson - in an excellent performance - plays a farmer trying to keep people out of the neighboring woods for mysterious reasons.
User Review - 8/10 by Chris BA more noirish thriller than most, "The Red House" begins as a supernatural thriller before it's revealed as a psychological one in the culmination of events leading to the nightmarish finale. Edward G. Robinson and the rest of the cast give good performances and while the script may falter in places, the performances and mood help it stay on it's feet. The film is a rather obscure and little known feature, especially one with so many stars, and that element works here. Overall I think this is a film anyone can enjoy and get into, as both my uncle and grandma both were uneasy at first but really enjoyed the film.
User Review - 8/10 by Robbie Hcreepy little underseen film....good performances and camera work...worth checking out
User Review - 8/10 by Andy FSuper, atmospheric thriller with a strong cast particularly Edward G Robinson. Dark, mysterious and captivating!
User Review - 6/10 by jay nA fine film that could have been better if it hadn't revealed too much too soon!
