Holk, an unemployed mans wife is taken ill. He must find food for her. He goes out poaching on the manors hunting grounds, succeeds in shooting a grouse, but the shot is heard by the forester. During his flight Holk is caught by the forester. During their fight Holk's rifle accidentally goes off and kills the forester. Terrified, Holk leaves the place leaving his rifle behind....
