DVDJournal.comMark BourneRay Milland emotes, by turns, dour gloominess or manic eyeball-spinning through a weak script that bears too little sense and too many similarities to its predecessors, Usher and Pendulum.
Stream on DemandSean AxmakerCorman creates his world completely in the studio, including the grounds outside the manor, a veritable haunted forest of dead trees, ever-present mist hugging the boggy ground, and a pair of creepy gravediggers...

User ReviewAndrew GLet's hear it for American International! This is my seventh outing into the world of AIP, and I've yet to be disappointed. "Premature Burial" is some fun, campy, "faux Poe". Would have liked to have seen Ray Milland taking out some more post-burial vengeance, but I think I've been spoiled on Vincent Price's forays in this territory. Still a fun flick, though.
User ReviewRiley HGenerally really liked it. I thought Milland was a little to campy, though. Especially with his endless references to being buried alive.
User ReviewBruce BThis is a API Film and its an excellent film. Ray Milland plays an excellent part as he did in many movies in the horror film era and was put in front of us during the Drive In Movie era. Ray plays Guy Carell who is obsessed with being buried alive, which makes for the best of plots from the Edgar Allen Poe Short Stories. 4 Stars on this MGM Midnite Double feature films.
User ReviewRyan VI don't care if this is the one Corman adaptation of Poe that jacks Vincent Price. This is gothic horror, as good as it gets. Milland brings an elegance, charm and an aristocracy to a part that calls for it. From beginning to end, we get a compelling tale of paranoia, obsession and destiny. It's exactly what you'd expect of a story based off of Poe's work.
User ReviewNicolas MI liked this one. It was kinda cheesey, but had a decent story. One of Poe's film adaptations. When a man becomes so obsessed with being buried alive, he begins building a crypt designed to guarantee that he will not fall prey to his most dreaded nightmare. He has to face losing his wife or fall victim to his own phobia. He falls in a catatonic state, and his nightmare now begins. Starring Ray Milland and Directed by Roger Corman.
