Movie NationRoger MooreThe plot is convoluted to the point that the picture is almost never not ponderous. There’s a lot more “history” than is probably necessary, and less comedy than was required to make this come off. Still, it’s kid-friendly and martial arts-happy and almost on a par with the least of the Depp “Pirates” pictures.
User ReviewJLuis_001This film is a standalone sequel to another one titled The Pirates that came out in 2014, which I have yet to see so I'm not sure if I'm missing anything on this one. Maybe pirate movies from any country would be more successful if audiences were more interested. I don't remember any movies with them being successful outside of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and the last two movies in that saga have been pretty lame. Successful yes, but lame. The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure obviously doesn't have the same ambitions, but even with its shortcomings it knows how to use what it has at hand and if we're not aiming for a devastating level of demand, let's say it works within the most primary realms of entertainment. A more serious and adult tone would not have gone amiss, but unfortunately, although South Korean cinema can boast of making violent and dark stories, it also often commits the sin of treating its viewers as fools who do not demand more, and that is a negative aspect of this film. The lack of seriousness. Other than that, if you're looking for an uncomplicated adventure. This is an option.
