Living in sordid surroundings with her drunken father, her thieving brother Frank and her wastrel sister Laura, Virginia Clerson decides to take a different path, she runs away from her unhappy home. She soon obtains work in a millinery factory, telling her employer, Frederick Parker, that her relatives are all dead. When Frederick discovers Virginia's history, he thrashes Frank and forgives his sweetheart, and then the couple marries.
