Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzThe Brits seem to be in a generous mood acknowledging the dashing heroic feats of their black leather jacket wearing fair-haired pilot prisoner.
Sarasota Herald-TribuneChristopher LloydThe German POW character played by Hardy Kruger is not terribly different from Steve McQueen's star-making role in The Great Escape - the dedicated escape artist who singlemindedly focuses on getting out of enemy clutches.
Movie MetropolisJohn J. Puccio...a top-notch suspense thriller, with fine acting from everyone involved but especially from Hardy Kruger, who holds it all together splendidly.

User ReviewScott Da great WW2 german POW movie of the only german to escape
User ReviewBarry FQuality film, especially considering it was made reasonably soon after the war yet the Germans aren't portrayed as evil or anything
User ReviewPaim DI'm sorry i just love the blonde man ahahahahahaha but still a great film!
User ReviewMatthew WThis is a little gem of a film that I caught on TCM the other day. It's based on the true story of Luftwaffe pilot Franz Von Werra, the only German POW to escape from British captivity during World War II. Hardy Kruger plays the young fighter ace with lashings of charm and charisma, so much so that you really find yourself rooting for him after a while, although he is technically the enemy! Even if you don't like war movies you should still enjoy this one, as there's plenty of humour and some genuinely suspenseful moments. Catch it if you can, you won't be disappointed.
User ReviewSanity Assassin !this guy deserved to get away german or not german. he tried to escape a fair few times. this was pretty enjoyable and believeable.... not just coz it's based on a true story but because i work on an english army base and yes, a german could really get in and almost steal a plane and even convince us to pick him up and take him there... haha. a good escape/adventure flick
User ReviewMatt KA very high quality movie. It was consistently tense and exciting throughout. I didn't feel for the main character as much as I felt the movie wanted to, but other than that, this movie is great.
