Film Geek CentralAustin KennedyTHE NAVIGATOR is a text-book example on how to execute slapstick and sight gags. I would say that this film, even more so than THE GENERAL, is a perfect introduction to the films of Buster Keaton.
CinePassionFernando F. CroceKeaton's master coup is in seizing Murnau's haunted ship as a gargantuan comic prop for a pair of stranded nitwits, who don't know what to do with it
Combustible CelluloidJeffrey M. AndersonThe Navigator looks and feels like it could be one of today's summer mega-blockbusters.
Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzOne of the great slapstick comedies from silent comic Buster Keaton.
ÜberCinéGregory WeinkaufPart of Keaton's charm is that he doesn't have to be zany in every single frame, which is charmingly illustrated here.
Decent Films GuideSteven D. GreydanusIsn't as sophisticated and satisfying as [Keaton's] best (e.g., The General), but still brilliant slapstick comedy, with a rousing third act and a slam-bang climax.
User ReviewJuha ROddly enough, this movie is rising on my list of favorites. I really enjoyed this movie! There are so many parts where I can easily laugh out loud! I hope more people see Keaton's lesser known work. (It may not be as well known as The General, but it's just as good, if not better!)
User ReviewJavier VExtraordinary! I laughed a lot since the start of it. The way one thing takes you to another in a simphony of humor and innocent gags. This is, also, the first movie I watched with Buster Keaton...and glad to.
User ReviewAdam ROne of the best american comedies ever, this is an ageless film because it's still really hilarious, crazy and the story looks current. Fantastic from the beginning to the end.
